Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

WHAT IS A BELGIUM ETIAS?

The European Travel Information and Authorization System or ETIAS is an electronic document that allows the EU to organize and update necessary info about visitors who do not need a visa to enter Schengen countries.

This system will allow you to visit Belgium for business, medical and transit purposes and is required if you are a citizen of one of the 62 countries listed that require ETIAS authorization. Mauritius is one of the countries mentioned in this list. So keep reading to understand more on how to acquire this authorization.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED THE BELGIUM ETIAS APPLICATION FORM?

To understand whether or not you can apply for the Belgium ETIAS, you can easily access iVisa.com's Visa Checking Tool that opens up as you enter the iVisa.com website.

There, you will have to select ”Mauritius” as your country of origin, and “Belgium” as the destination. Et voilà - you’ll have all the information you require.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE ETIAS?

You could try to apply for your ETIAS using an official government website, but that often turns out to be a difficult and long winding process. On the other hand, at iVisa.com, we guide you through the steps in an easy and efficient manner, that’s as easy as 1..2..3!

  • Step 1:Fill out the application form by answering a select few questions, and choosing the procedure time you prefer (more on this further down).
  • Step 2:Verify the information you provided in Step 1 and confirm. Then use your credit/debit card or your Paypal account to pay the relevant fees.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED FOR THE BELGIUM ETIAS?

The only major document you need in order to apply is a valid passport.

However, try and ensure that your passport has the following information readily available :

  • A digital photograph that is not stuck to the passport
  • An electronic passport chip – not mandatory, but would provide an advantage
  • A machine-readable passport code

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO APPLY FOR THE BELGIUM ETIAS?

20 minutes, give or take! As easy and quick as making a quick cup of Bois Cheri Tea or slurping up some Alouda.

WHAT ARE YOUR PRICES & PROCESSING TIMES?

Given that this is a new procedure, it’s hard to establish an exact price for each nationality, including Mauritian. Detailed below is the descriptive information about our procedures and affiliated times so that you have a general idea in mind while applying for this document:

  • Standard Processing Time: This is the cheapest option available and the option generally preferred by those travelers who are not in a hurry as it allows you to wait - although only a few days - before you can obtain your document with ease
  • Rush Processing Time: As per this method, you will receive your document 2x faster by choosing to pay a higher fee amount than the standard one
  • Super Rush Processing Time: The super rush alternative is obviously the quickest of all the processes. We take your request to the top of the queue, and all for a minimally higher service fee that allows us to process your documents as quickly as possible

Feel free to contact us for any questions you may have,

WHAT KIND OF BACKGROUND QUESTIONS WILL I BE ASKED WHILE APPLYING?

The information required by the EU authorities is quite generic and is only asked in order to reduce procedures and wait times, as well as address the security concerns for all tourists - given that the authorities have continuously declared its goal to make travelling within its borders a more secure experience.

Here, we have listed some basic points of interest that are worth noting. While going through this list, it might be useful to pen down your thoughts and plans for the same:

  • Education background and work experience
  • The first EU country you intend to visit (If you are planning to go through France, Belgium, and Spain, and you have stated in your ETIAS application that the first country you will visit is France, you must go through it first before you visit Belgium and Spain. After entering the first country, you are eligible to visit the other countries in the Schengen Zone for 90 days.)
  • Medical condition
  • Travel to war countries
  • Places where you may have been deported or rejected
  • Criminal records, if any
  • For minors, only the legal guardian can apply for ETIAS
  • For the family members of EU citizens from other countries, they must submit - proof of relationship, residence card, and other background information

Make sure you answer all questions honestly, to the best of your ability, to avoid any red flags that may lead to manual questioning or declining of your application.

However, this is just the general information we have as of now. We recommend you contact our customer service center to receive further details.

DO I NEED THIS DOCUMENT IF I’M JUST PASSING THROUGH BELGIUM?

Even if you need to merely complete a stopover, it’s still necessary to apply for the ETIAS to enter Belgium. Otherwise, you may end up having problems or even losing your connecting flight.

However, just having the ETIAS does not guarantee entry into the EU countries. This is completely at the discretion of the border authorities. Keep in mind that there are some countries in the EU, which are not in the Schengen Zone, and you will not be able to enter them with just the ETIAS authorization.

We recommend you consider this when planning your trip, even if it is to a nearby country.

HOW LONG IS THE ETIAS VALID FOR?

Once approved, the ETIAS will be valid for 3 years or until the end of the validity of the travel document used to register for the application, whichever comes first. Whether or not you will receive the first period of validity or the second depends on the system’s evaluation of your information and risk.
