When we plan road trips we usually start off by booking a car or checking out all the cities we would like to see. Before getting all hooked up on your road trip around Canada, I suggest you obtain your travel document first and get that out of the way. We have simplified the process in 5 simple steps:
1. What is a Canada ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization)?
An ETA is a new entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals who will arrive in Canada by air. From March 15, 2016, visa-exempt country nationals who fly/transit Canada will need the ETA. Exceptions include US citizens and travelers with a valid visa issued by the Canadian Embassy.
All non-citizens require a Visa or Electronic Travel Authorization to enter Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens/nationals and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon residents.
All visa-exempt foreign nationals are expected to have an ETA to fly to or transit through Canada.
2. What do I need to apply for a Canada ETA?
No documents are required to submit an ETA application. You will only need to have a valid passport along with an email address and a credit/debit card or PayPal account for the payment.
3. How can I apply for a Canada ETA?
The application for Canada ETA is really easy. It has only three steps:
The first step will ask you to fill in your general information. You also need to choose the processing time from the options mentioned above.
The second step will ask you to revise step one and make the payment.
The last step consists of a questionnaire and a photo upload. It is at this point when you need to upload your passport scan. Other documents may be required as well, but it depends on personal circumstances.
