I'm planning to visit Toronto next weekend from New York via the Megabus. I'm trying to figure out if I need an eTA for Canada. Is it needed for bus trips as well, or is it just for flying?

Cami, iVisa | July 8, 2024

No, you don't need an eTA if you're traveling to Canada by bus. The eTA is only required for visa-exempt foreign nationals who are flying to or transiting through a Canadian airport. Since you're traveling by Megabus, an eTA won't be necessary for your trip.

Annette M, France | July 10, 2024

We’re planning a family trip to Quebec. I already have a Canadian work visa but my parents have to apply for an eTA. Will they need to upload a selfie or any kind of photo for the eTA application? Because they are horrible at selfies!

Martin, iVisa | July 12, 2024

No, your parents won't need to upload a selfie or any kind of photo when applying for an eTA. The application process for an eTA does not require a photo; instead, it requires information such as their passport details, and some personal and travel information.

Isabella R, Mexico | July 26, 2024

I'm planning a getaway to Toronto from Mexico City and I’m a bit stuck on the visa stuff. What’s the real difference between getting an eTA and a regular visa for Canada? Which one should I go for if I just want to explore the city for a couple of weeks?

Cami, iVisa | July 29, 2024

The main difference between an eTA and a regular visa is the purpose and duration it covers, along with the ease of application.

An eTA is suitable for visa-exempt foreign nationals who plan to fly to or transit through Canada. It’s valid for five years or until the passport expires, and it allows you to stay in Canada for short periods (normally up to six months at a time). The application process is entirely online and is usually processed very quickly.

A regular Canadian visa is required for those who do not fall under the visa-exempt category or are coming to Canada by methods other than air (like land or sea). This is also for those who may be staying longer or for purposes other than tourism or short visits.

For your trip to Toronto from Mexico City, the eTA would be the right document to apply for, provided you’re flying into Canada and you’re from a visa-exempt country. It's simpler and quicker to obtain compared to a regular visa.

No worries. Contact our customer team as soon as possible. Our visa experts are available 24/7 and will be happy to help you.

iVisa review your documents and assist you during the application process to avoid rejection. But if the Canadian government rejects or cancels your application, you are eligible for a full refund of the iVisa processing fee related to the number of rejected applicants. Otherwise, we do not refund the government fees.

You may consider re-applying for the Canada ETA, depending on the reasons for cancellation or rejection.

You don’t need to apply for a Canada ETA if you have a US Green Card. Since April 26, 2022, lawful permanent residents of the U.S. can enter Canada presenting only a valid passport from their country of nationality and a valid Green Card.
Government agencies do not inform us of the reasons behind the decisions, but certain factors can result in a rejected application. For example, providing a passport number that was reported lost or stolen, having overstayed in Canada on a previous visit, having a previous visa denial, engaging in unauthorized work on a previous trip, and having connections with criminal or terrorist organizations.
No, it’s not because the Canada eTA is electronically linked to the traveler's passport. This travel authorization is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. So if you get a new passport, you need to get a new eTA.
No, the Canada eTA is exclusively to enter the country by air.
At iVisa, we understand that your time is valuable, and we strive to provide you with the fastest service possible. Our processing times are estimated based on the average duration it takes governments to process visa applications. These estimated times begin from the moment we receive all the correct information for your application until you receive your visa. While we work diligently to expedite the process, it’s important to note that we are reliant on the processing times set by the government authorities.
