One big question for Swiss travelers is whether they require a visa for China. Read on as we unpack this topic and give you all the necessary information.

Do Swiss citizens need a China Tourist Visa?

In January 2024, China and Switzerland announced a move to simplify visa procedures for travel between the two countries. This change is part of China's efforts to encourage tourism after almost three years of limited international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Swiss travelers can now enjoy a visa-free trip to China for up to 15 days. This exemption applies to those visiting for tourism, business, visiting friends or family, or transiting to another destination, as long as they hold a valid ordinary Swiss passport.

However, for stays longer than 15 days, Swiss citizens will still need to apply for a China Tourist Visa. Available options include single-, double-, and multiple-entry visas, depending on the length and purpose of your stay.

Securing a visa also requires a visa appointment in advance, to drop off supporting documents.

It's important to note that if your travel plans include visits to Hong Kong or Tibet, separate visas may be required for these regions.
