Colombia is one of those countries that simply has it all. The mountains, the beaches, the forests, the rivers, the great weather, friendly people, nice food and that Latin warmth that instantly makes you feel welcome and at home. It’s no surprise that Colombia has become a popular country for foreigners, not only to visit, but to make their new home. Since Colombia opened its borders around 34% of travelers were tourists. Cities like Bogotá, Cartagena, Cali, and Medellín are magnets for visitors crazy to escape isolation from quarantine days and in need of something different and exciting. Every department in Colombia offers unique experiences, and some are so large that they cover and fulfil any dream landscape you can think of, like Antioquia. Antioquia is not only known for its capital, Medellin, it’s much more than the cool city of eternal spring. In Antioquia you can explore coffee fincas, where coffee lovers can find out more about the plantations, how to grow coffee beans, the right weather and places to grow coffee, and get lost in the beauty of the fincas located in mountains that are vast with trees and an amazing fauna and flora. Did we mention that part of exploring fincas is also tasting the coffee? Not only tasting it after learning the whole process, but learning more about the ideal way to drink it, so you can fully experience the flavours and aromas of that perfectly made coffee. Salento is a lovely place that you can’t miss if you want to tour these fincas. You can also hike the Cocora Valley, pass through rivers and see not only cows and horses, but the incredible hummingbird reservation. At the reservation, you’ll see hummingbird species that you didn’t even know existed, with colors that look even more incredible in the sunlight. When you get to the reservation you’ll have to pay a small fee that includes hot chocolate, tea or coffee, plus you can order homemade food and make the most of the chance to go to the bathroom after that long walk. The best part of Salento besides its chilly weather and different restaurants, is that while you’re staying in the cute little town, the hostels and hotels leave out sweet water for the hummingbirds flying around, which means that even outside your balcony you can see one of the cutests birds ever. Medellín has fresh weather, is surrounded by hills where you can hike and explore waterfalls and rivers, as well as museums, malls, parks and a botanical garden. Visit the popular neighbourhood of Comuna 13, decorated by incredible murals painted by local artists, where you can go all the way up through the escalators. Ride the metro cable where you can see the entire city and travel to Parque Arví, a natural park with rivers, trees, fincas, local restaurants and more, where you can try some of the wines, food and desserts made by locals. Visiting Parque Arví is one of the trips you must definitely do. Another great thing about Medellin is its people, who are kind, helpful and ready to make you part of their family. Buñuelos, almojábanas, bandeja paisa, ajiaco, chorizos and empanadas are some of the traditional dishes that are as lovely as the people in the city. There are also many restaurants in areas like Poblado, Laureles and Envigado where you can try different options, including vegan/vegetarian food and desserts. Antioquia is also home to the town of Santa Elena, where the silleteros build their beautiful silletas graced with beautiful flowers for the popular and widely expected flower festival, a yearly tradition that fills the city with flowers, and happy faces filled with excitement for the parade. Antioquia also has beaches to make this department even dreamier. Speaking of beaches, no trip to Colombia is complete without taking in the coast of Colombia. Barranquilla is the city of carnivals, Cartagena is full of history, there’s also lovely Santa Marta and San Andrés Island, just to name a few. Cartagena features warm water beaches where you can swim or explore on a jet ski. Isla Baru is a beautiful paradise beach that is around 30 minutes away from the city, but it is worth the trip. In Santa Marta the tide is stronger, and you can’t miss Tayrona Park, where you can camp and also taste the most delicious bread at Bere Baker, and swim in the different beaches inside the park. San Andrés is a popular island that you might not want to miss. Away from the beaches and the warm weather is Bogotá, the capital, known for its cold weather, museums, and fashion. Now that Colombia is allowing travelers into the country, one of the requirements to enter is the Colombia Check-Mig Form. You can always count on iVisa.com to release weight off your shoulders and make processes easier and faster for you. If you want to give it a try, it's important that on your flight number request, you literally just write the number, no letters, just the numbers. But if you decide to leave things in our hands, then we’ll just need your basic info, including your flight itinerary. Also make sure to wear a mask, wash your hands and keep distance when entering the country.
