The Republic of the Congo, also called Congo-Brazzaville, is not to be confused with its neighbor, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. While the nation is highly urbanized, vast swathes of jungle in the northern reaches of the country can be relatively uninhabited, making travel to the Congo a wonderful experience for seasoned hikers and adventurers.

Before you leave for the Republic of the Congo, you need to check whether or not you are required to obtain a visa. It is likely that you will need to obtain one since only 5 countries' citizens can freely cross the border to the Republic of the Congo. If you not are a citizen of Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, or Gabon you'll need to get a visa before departure.

Visas on arrival are also available for the Republic of the Congo, although the list of authorized countries is quite short. Only 10 nations are allowed to get a visa on arrival, 9 of which are African, and the other one is the United Arab Emirates.

If you can't find your country of origin on the list of visa-exempt countries, and if you are not eligible for a visa on arrival, your only option is to visit to the nearest diplomatic mission of the Republic of the Congo in-person.

Since we love assisting travelers, you can use our Visa Checker to find out where there is an embassy near you. This tool is located in the top right corner of this page. If you select your nationality and choose in the Republic of the Congo as your destination, you'll be given some more information and a list of the nearest embassies.

Unfortunately, iVisa cannot help you with the Republic of the Congo visa application process since their government does not currently issue electronic visas. If and when that happens, iVisa will be able to be of more assistance. Until then, feel free to use our free, 24/7 support service if you have questions regarding your visa application process.

We recommend you research the specific visa requirements for your country of origin. While you can usually do that online, it's best to contact the embassy directly since they will provide you with the most reliable and up-to-date information. While you can finds lost of fast facts and info online, websites are not always updated, leading to major mistakes and cancelled trips. Just give the embassy a call to learn more. Nevertheless, what iVisa can tell you is that you'll need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned date of arrival in the Republic of the Congo.

While we cannot provide more assistance, hopefully, the information above is helpful! For more information, contact our support service or the nearest embassy of the Republic of the Congo.
