Can I extend my Lithuania Schengen Visa?

Extending a Lithuanian Visa is not easy, as these visas are typically designed for a short stay.

Extensions of Schengen Visas are considered only in extraordinary situations, such as medical emergencies or force majeure events. Proof of why you need to extend your stay is required to support your request for an extension.

Lithuania Schengen Visa required documents

You generally need to have the following when applying for your Lithuania Schengen Visa:

  • Online visa application form
  • Two recent photographs
  • Valid passport: Including a minimum of 6 months of validity upon arrival and at least two blank pages for visa stickers and entry stamps.
  • Travel itinerary: Such as a copy of your return flight and any confirmed tours.
  • Proof of accommodation: You will require a hotel confirmation or a letter from relatives or friends in Lithuania to prove your accommodation arrangements.
  • Financial statements: Bank statements or salary slips are required as evidence to show that you have enough funds to finance your entire trip in the Schengen Zone.
  • Your collected fingerprints: If you haven't registered your fingerprints in the past 59 months, you must provide these and your biometric data at your visa appointment.
  • Medical/travel insurance: Covering at least €30,000 for emergency medical treatment and repatriation in the entire Schengen zone.

Other documents, such as birth certificates and parental consent, may be necessary when applying on behalf of your child or a minor.

Lithuania Schengen Visa application costs and processing time

The government fee: Approximately US$85 should be settled at the Visa Application Center (VAC) or embassy/consulate. The processing time can take up to 45 days.

There is a reduced fee for children between the ages of 6 and 12, and children under 6 are exempt from this fee. Other specific exemptions may apply, too, so be sure to inform about them.

Must I get a Lithuanian Schengen Visa if I’m transiting?

When transiting through a Lithuanian airport en route to a non-Schengen country, you might require an Airport Transit Visa.

  • If traveling for business, a confirmed invitation letter from your Lithuanian host institution explaining your trip purpose.
