Myanmar launched the Business e-Visa system in July 2015. e-Visas are issued online for tourism and business purposes only.
By using iVisa, travelers of certain nationalities do not have to visit the consulate to apply for a Business e-Visa. You can submit all the required documents and information and pay the visa fees online. This streamlined system cuts out the time wasted waiting in lines and costly processes that were previously in place. This is very helpful for business travelers.
The Myanmar Business e-Visa is an official document issued electronically by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Applicants will receive their visas via email after filling out the application form with the necessary information and once the online credit card payment is completed.

Myanmar, former Burma, was not available for international investors, which is why it makes sense that now everyone is trying to get a spot in the business world there. As a place where there was no access, there is plenty of opportunities now, and your company may be interested in a business collaboration with a Myanmar enterprise. However, since this is a foreign country we are talking about, it would be better if you learned some basic things about its business etiquette. After all, you do not want to get there and make a fool of yourself just because you could not make an effort to read some things about Myanmar’s culture and traditions do you? With that being said, below you will find some valuable information that will turn your business trip into a successful one. One thing that you will find surprising in Myanmar is the office etiquette. Myanmar is an Asian country, and it shares some of its culture with other Asian countries. You probably already know that when you enter a Chinese home, for example, you are required to take your shoes off. While the Chinese do this at home only, the people of Myanmar do it at their offices as well. You can wear shoes on public corridors, but when you enter an office or a conference room, you need to get rid of your shoes. It goes without saying that you must pay attention to your socks. When you enter a home, the host will be more offended by the fact that you do not take your shoes off than of the ‘integrity’ of your socks, but in the business world, your attire matters. Check your socks for holes before going into a meeting. It is common that business people shake hands when they meet. As for that, there is no confusion when it comes to men. They always shake hands without even thinking about it. With women, on the other hand, foreigners are usually unsure of what they can or cannot do. It goes something like this: if the woman extends her arm to shake your hand, then you need to reciprocate. If not, a smile and a nod are more than enough. If you are a woman, you can initiate a handshake, but if you do not, you do not need to worry about it. Nobody will get offended, and you will receive a subtle smile. As for business attire, things are pretty relaxed in Myanmar. The hot and humid climate is not very comfortable when you are in a suit and tie, which is why you can lose the jacket and tie. Basically, in Myanmar, it is more than okay to wear business casual attire. However, there is one rule for women. They are required to dress a little bit more conservative. If you are a woman on business in Myanmar, you can wear skirts or dresses with the length that should reach the knees. Also, you should have your shoulders covered, and your dress and skirt should not be too tight. Other than that, you can dress as comfortably as you like. One of the things that are common in all cultures is that business people have some small talk before the actual meeting. The purpose of this action is to get to know you better as a person as some cultures desire to build a strong relationship before engaging in business. However, Myanmar is not the place for that. The foreign delegation will try to find out some things about you as a person, but they are not very keen on small talk. However, if they do engage in small talk, you should probably talk about their culture, history, cuisine, and traditions. They like to hear what you think about it. Plus, if you learn a few words in Burmese, you will very much impress them. They will appreciate the effort and commend you for it. Gift giving is a common practice in many countries, but in Myanmar, the gift is not a must. If, however, you wish to offer a gift to the business delegation from Myanmar, you should not overdo it. A small item from your country of origin is more than satisfactory. You can even bring products with your company logo on them. One thing is for certain, though. You can never fail with a good box of chocolates. Just like in most countries, the exchange of business cards is frequent. You need to present one as well. Just make sure that your business card for Myanmar trip also has a translation in Burmese. It is not a must, but it is considered a nice touch. Also, when you receive a business card from the leader of the foreign delegation, remember to not put it away as soon as you get it. Take a look at it before putting it into your wallet or on the desk. If you could use both hands when receiving it, that would be great. That first meeting you have with the Myanmar business people can be a bit stressful, but you do not have reasons to worry too much. Nobody expects you to know everything there is to know about Myanmar, which is why it is very okay for you to ask when you are in doubt. Do not be afraid to take little missteps during your meeting. Of course, they need to be culture-related, not business-related. When you have doubts about anything, you can simply smile and ask for a clarification. Nobody will find that insulting, it is the contrary. The people present at the meeting will be more than happy to help you. The aspect that should put your mind at ease is that the people of Myanmar are lovely and patient. They do not expect you to know everything because they are aware of the cultural differences. If you make a few mistakes, you will not insult anyone, so do not let your lack of knowledge affect your confidence.
