Oman is one of the richest countries in the Gulf, and as you can expect, it is the ideal world to do some business. It is an incredibly developed country where you can enjoy a lot of opportunities, which is why doing some business there is worth your while. However, when it comes to business etiquette, you need to do your homework thoroughly. There are some rules that if you do not learn, you may end up offending someone. Once that happens, you will fail to almost everything. Omani business people value their traditions and culture more than anything else, and any little sign of disrespect will cut you loose in no time.
With that being said, you should know some of the rules that Omani business people use to govern their lives, both personally and professionally. Keep in mind that they often do not make the difference between the two, and you will find them very intrusive in your personal life. However, you need to understand that sometimes Omani value the person more than the technical expertise, so make sure that you put some emphasis on that. You need to know from the start that the weekend in Oman is Friday and Saturday. The country is a religious one, and most of the people there are Muslim. The workday starts from 8 AM to 6:30 PM, but there is a lunch break from 1 to 3:30 PM. When it comes to the dress code, it is very important for women to dress conservatively. Men wear suits most of the times, but women should always have their knees and elbows covered, no cleavage, and very tight dresses or skirts are a no-no. Keep in mind that Oman is one of the most liberal Islamic countries, but there are still some rules that need to be followed. Women are present in the workspace, and while getting there as a woman is more difficult, they are highly respected once there. Greetings include a handshake among men. However, you should wait for the Omani person to initiate it. Not all of them are keen on shaking hands. With women, on the other hand, you should never initiate a handshake. If you do, she will put her hand on her chest. But it is offensive, and physical contact between men and women can be insulting. If, however, the woman extends her arm, you can shake her hand. In the business world in Oman, almost everyone speaks English. You most likely do not need an interpreter. However, it would come off as a great sign of respect to learn a few words in Arabic, like greetings and commonly used words like thank you and please. Also, you should always use titles such as Sheikh or Haji. Also, your word is highly valued, so if you say something, Omani people will expect you to keep your word. At the same time, Omani people cannot stand public humiliation. This part is very important. If you have something to say, something that may come off as criticism or complaint, you should always take a person aside and tell them in private. Omani people can take constructive criticism, just not in a public setting. When you meet the Omani delegation, the exchange of business cards is very common. Just make sure that your business cards have the translation in Arabic on the back. Also, if you have an agenda, provide an Arabic copy as well. Even so, do not get upset if you do not discuss all the items on your agenda in one meeting. That happens a lot in Oman. One of the things that you may find odd is that Omani people put a lot of accent on getting to know you personally. They will judge from the minute they meet you. One tip is to maintain eye contact at all times with the person you are talking to. It denotes strength. They will ask you about your personal life, and while you may find that as an intrusion in your private life, they are just trying to establish a good rapport. That is their way of doing business. Omani people first establish a good relationship with you, and only then they go down to business. They need to find out whether or not you can be trusted. You should never hard sell because you come off as aggressive to them. Meetings are usually very long in Oman. The Omani go from one topic to the other in just a second, and they can sometimes spend a lot of time on a topic that is not of interest for that particular moment. You are expected to arrive on time, but do not expect the same courtesy from the Omani delegation. That is not considered rude on their part. Interruptions are very often and sometimes, family may intervene. Whether it is an emergency or not, Omani will leave everything just to satisfy their loved ones since they are very keen on family. If you are invited to someone’s home, you should accept. You can buy a small gift to bring the host, but you should probably buy something from your country and give them that. They get very excited about foreign items like souvenirs. However, make sure that your gift does not contain any part that is made of pig’s skin. Muslims do not touch it. As long as you understand that Omani people value personal relationships and they need you to respect their culture and traditions, you should be successful in your endeavors in Oman. Oman is a religious country, and if you want to make an extra effort, you will learn about their religion. Nobody forces you to practice, but just by knowing about it, you will gain a lot of points. If you plan to stay for a while, learning some basic Arabic will help you as well. The Omani will notice your effort, and they will value you for it.

Because you simply deserve to get the most from your travel experience.

Now more than ever, the process of traveling has become a bit more complicated than what it used to be. As countries keep changing their regulations, paperwork keeps growing, and so do everyone’s stress levels.

For now, travel might feel different in several ways. People can expect to explore a world of face masks, social distancing, closed businesses, and 14-day quarantines.

Even so, iVisa.com firmly believes that traveling is one of the top ways to improve on personal and professional levels. Traveling makes you step out of your comfort zone and develop a sense of independence that will ultimately reflect on your decisions and the way you look at life in general. Traveling is indeed a form of education that can’t be learned by watching television or reading a book. It teaches important lessons and insights regarding cultures and traditions, touching the realms of history, economics, and geography and exposing you to different lifestyles and worldviews from your own. For life’s real education always happens outside your own four walls.

If you’re planning to travel soon, you’ve probably googled whether borders are open, which papers you need to present, and where you have to go to obtain that inescapable travel document. Whether it’s an electronic visa or health declaration, your travel date is coming, and you still don’t know when you’ll spare the time to complete those lengthy steps and be done with the whole process.

As a multicultural visa expert team, we understand how frustrating this is, especially when you’re trying to plan the trip of your dreams, choosing a hotel that you can afford to make ends meet, prepare reachable trip goals, and list the places you could realistically visit this year just to stay inspired.

Sometimes too much paperwork becomes an obstacle to the realization of your dreams, and that’s where we come in.

We want you to go out and buy that plane ticket, so everything else turns out to be an incredible adventure. Just don’t overthink it and let us take care of the rest. No busy lines at the airport, no queues at the embassy. Just a five-minute questionnaire that you can fill out from the comfort of your own home or anywhere in the world.

Your time is priceless, and so are the experiences you’re able to create when there’s enough of it. The reason to choose iVisa.com to process your travel document rests on that, but also on safety, speed, and simplicity.
