Sierra Leone isn’t the first place you think of when traveling to Africa. This country might not be a popular one due to its infamy related to diamonds and slavery. Therefore, we invite you to discover it before everybody else does, especially because it’s possible to enjoy it by simply applying for the Sierra Leone Travel Authorization. This land has an incredible history. Its Indigenous citizens started to inhabit it over 2,500 years ago. However, much of its history was marked by colonization, slave-trading, and civil unrest. After gaining independence from the United Kingdom in 1961, Sierra Leone went into a decade-long civil war due to ethnic and linguistic differences. But, now we can say that Sierra Leone is a nation with a promising future after ending its civil war 15 years ago and being declared Ebola-free. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that 2020 brought, you cannot forget to apply for the Sierra Leone Travel Authorization before entering this country. To apply for the Sierra Leone Travel Authorization, you only need your valid passport, a payment method (Paypal or a debit/credit card), and a valid email address. You also need an electronic device with a wifi Connection to complete the online process because it’s a digital system. With iVisa.com, you can be ready in a few minutes and receive your Sierra Leone Travel Authorization within a few days or hours, according to the processing time you select. That’s why you have to make sure to get your Sierra Leone Travel Authorization if you’re planning a trip to this country. As for the most important touristic spots in this country, keep reading below. Sierra Leone has a beautiful coastline with some beaches that are still very unknown. John Obey Beach and Bureh Beach are great examples of crystal-clear waters and great waves for surfers. If you visit this region during the dry season, don’t forget to take a road to Number Two Beach, the preferred beach for this part of the year. While exploring this place, don’t forget to enjoy some seafood in the nearby restaurants which all helps to contribute to the local economy. Another beach you can visit is Lakka, which is only 15 miles away from Freetown, the capital city. It might be a beach quite near to a big metropolitan area, but it’s still an excellent point to have a relaxing experience surrounded by pristine waters. If you prefer to enjoy adrenaline-packed activities like hiking, then you cannot overlook the Lion Mountains. Speaking of mountains, keep in mind that Mount Bintumani is the highest mountain in the country, and it’s one of the most important peaks in West Africa. For casual travelers who prefer to walk and enjoy calming views, you can take a tour to Kabala Hills, which has incredible scenery. If you visit this place during New Year’s day, don’t forget to touch one of the rocks as the locals say that it’ll give you luck throughout the entire year. Wildlife sanctuaries are important for every African country, and Sierra Leone isn’t an exception. You can watch hippos in Outamba-Kilimi wildlife park or visit Mamunto Mayosso and practice birdwatching. You can also camp in these locations and have a unique experience watching the stars at night. Getting to the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a must because it’s home to over 80 chimpanzees that were rescued from illegal trafficking. Many of these chimpanzees used to perform in circuses or were sold through the black market. The sanctuary has the main purpose of giving them a new chance to enjoy wildlife. If you’re an animal lover, you’ll surely love to visit this site because it will be an unforgettable experience. Krio architecture is also an interesting topic if you visit the West Area Peninsula. The Krio ethnic group represents 2% of the country’s population and they are descendants of freed slaves. In this region, you’ll be able to take in some 19th-century settlements which include ancient Krio houses and churches. Sierra Leone has nine islands that are yet to be discovered, but regardless of your preference for visiting any of them, don’t forget that you have to keep your documentation up-to-date before arriving in the country, even if you’re planning to visit one of the islands first. The most important document you need before entering Sierra Leone is the Sierra Leone Travel Authorization, which is available now through ’s document processing service. Don’t forget that your trip will be easier if you acquire a guided tour from community members, and you’ll also be contributing to the local communities. You should take time to explore the Turtle Islands to swim in their crystal-clear waters. One interesting historical spot you should also explore is the Martello Tower because it was used as a guarded fort during the 19th century. It has served different purposes throughout time, including being an artillery spot for conflicting periods to being a water tank that supplied this resource during the 1870s. At the top of the tower, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the town. As for the culture in Sierra Leone, keep in mind that 60% of its citizens are Muslims, while 30% are Christians. Only 10% of the population still believe in ancient traditions related to tribes from ages ago. The locals are very friendly, but you should respect their customs and be careful with the language or any expression that they could consider offensive. However, that’s not difficult because most of the time you just have to follow basic rules and you can always seek good advice from the professional guides. Food is a key part of Sierra Leone’s lifestyle. In this country, you can enjoy a lot of seafood, including fish like snapper or barracuda. These plates have a lot of rice, so if you’re a fan of rice, then you’re bound to love them. Another thing you can enjoy in this place is the fresh coconut water, which is commonly sold on the streets of Freetown. As you can see, Sierra Leone can be a dreamy destination in Africa, even if you haven’t considered it before.
