As the UEFA Euro 2020 Championship approaches, you may want to start planning your trip if you wish to attend any of the games. 12 cities across Europe will host the matches, and Bilbao, Spain, is among them. The San Mames Stadium will host four games, on the 15th, 20th, 24th, and on the 28th of June, and if you wish to attend any of them, one of the first things you should do is check if you need a visa for Bilbao, Spain.

Spain is one of the countries that are in the Schengen area, so the Schengen visa policy applies. As a result, all European citizens can travel to Spain freely without having to hold any kind of travel document. If you happen to be a European citizen, all you need to have on you is a valid national ID card.

According to the visa policy of the Schengen Area, the citizens of 62 countries and territories can travel to Schengen countries without holding a valid visa as long as their stay does not go beyond 90 days. However, if you are among the visa-exempt nationalities and you want to attend the UEFA Euro 2020 in Bilbao, Spain, keep in mind that a valid passport is necessary. Not only that, but the passport has to remain valid for at least another 6 months from your date of arrival in Spain.

Do you want to find out whether or not you are among the visa-exempt nationalities? You should use iVisa's Visa Checker Tool, located on our homepage. Using it is pretty simple. Just insert your nationality in the box on the left, and then choose Spain as your destination.

If you end up using iVisa's Visa Checker Tool and find that you are not visa exempt, your only option is to apply for a visa. However, that is not as complicated as you may think because you have the possibility of submitting an online application form. Of course, the Schengen visa itself cannot be issued online, but you can apply and pay the fee online, as well as schedule your interview at the Spanish embassy or visa center in your country.

Once you submit your application and pay the fee, you have to put together the requirements so that you can attend your interview fully prepared. But the conditions are not unusual. You will need a valid passport that remains as such for another 6 months from arrival, proof of accommodation, return/onward flight ticket, as well as proof of sustenance. Keep in mind that in Spain, you need to have at least 584 Euros for a stay under 10 days, and anything that exceeds 10 days requires an additional 65 Euros per day.

Generally, it takes about 15 days for your application to be approved or rejected. If it is approved, you can attend the UEFA Euro 2020 in Bilbao, Spain, and your stay cannot exceed 90 days.

Please note that if you apply for a Schengen visa that has multiple entries, Spain is not the only country you can travel to. The Schengen visa grants you entry into all Schengen countries, as well as Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Croatia. So, if you want to attend other UEFA Euro 2020 matches in another country, you can do so with the same visa if that particular country is a member of the Schengen Area.

Although you may find yourself in need of a visa if you want to attend the UEFA Euro 2020 in Bilbao, Spain, getting one is not at all complicated. A Schengen visa is not a challenge to obtain, and the fact that you can submit an application online definitely makes things easier for you.
