The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is the name of the official document that enables foreign citizens to enter Sri Lanka for tourism purposes. If you want to travel for business purposes, you can also apply for a Business ETA.

How long can I stay in Sri Lanka with an ETA?

What documents do I need to apply?

Before applying online for this document, you'll need to provide some information first. The list of requirements is short, so you shouldn't have any trouble with getting everything on it. Here's what you need:

  • A valid passport for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date.

  • Digital passport photo.

  • Credit/debit card or PayPal account to make the payment.

  • Return or onward flight ticket – this requirement applies only for the citizens of Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Syria.

  • Valid e-mail address – to receive your ETA in PDF format.

What are the processing times and fees?

The price of your ETA will vary according to how soon you want it. The faster you want your ETA, the more you'll have to pay. These are your options:

  • Standard processing – Your ETA is ready in 24 hours by paying USD 55.00.

  • Rush processing – With this option, your ETA is ready in 4 hours and you have to pay USD 85.00 (services fee included).

  • Super Rush processing – Since this is the fastest option, you have to pay USD 100.00 with services fee included, but you'll have the application ready in 30 minutes.

With 20 minutes of your day you can easily apply online for a Sri Lankan ETA.

How can I apply?

The application form is divided into two simple steps:

  1. The first one will ask you to fill in your general information (name, address, passport id, etc). You also have to select the type of ETA you need and the processing time.

  2. The second step of the application process will ask you to proceed with the payment. You'll also need to review the information you gave in the first step because there shouldn't be any typo. This part is more important than you think, a single typo can make your ETA invalid. Note that after your application is processed, it is impossible to make any corrections, which means you'll need to repeat the process.

Can I extend my stay beyond the 30-day limit?

With an extra fee, you'll be allowed to apply for an extension at the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration & Emigration. This visa also allows for double entry and is valid for 180 days after its first use. Don't forget to take note of the documents required to obtain this visa.

Do I need to book a flight before applying for the Tourist ETA?

No, you don't need to. You can apply for the ETA visa before you have booked your flight.

Do I need to get separate Tourist ETAs for my children?
