What can you do with the Sri Lanka Tourist ETA?

  • Sightseeing and holidaying throughout Sri Lanka.

  • Visiting friends and relatives.

  • Undergoing medical treatments, including ayurvedic and yoga treatments.

  • Enroll in any educational courses or conduct research.

  • Engage in political activities or media/journalism without proper endorsements and visas.

  • Stay indefinitely; the ETA is valid for short stays only.

Who requires the Sri Lanka Tourist ETA?

Nearly all nationalities are eligible to apply for the Sri Lanka Tourist ETA, except for a few countries that are provided visas on arrival or have visa-free entry due to bilateral agreements.

Select your nationality at the top of this page to check if you are eligible for the visa, as these can frequently change based on diplomatic relations and international agreements.

Requirements to apply for a Sri Lanka Tourist ETA include:

  • Your trip must be for tourism purposes such as sightseeing, holidaying, visiting friends or relatives, or medical treatment, including ayurvedic and yoga.

  • The visit should not exceed the duration permitted by the ETA.

  • You must have a passport valid for at least six months from when you arrive in Sri Lanka.

  • You should possess a return ticket as well as sufficient funds to cover your expenses during the stay.

Visa-exempt: Who doesn't need to apply for Sri Lanka Tourist ETA?

Nationals from the following countries do not need to apply for a Sri Lanka Tourist ETA due to visa exemption agreements:

  1. Singapore

  2. Maldives

  3. Seychelles

These visa exemptions are typically granted for 30 to 90 days of short stays. However, conditions and policies may change, so verifying the current status is important before planning your travel.

You can find detailed and up-to-date information about visa exemptions on the official Sri Lanka ETA portal or by contacting the nearest Sri Lankan embassy or consulate.

Do children also require the Sri Lanka Tourist ETA?

Yes, children also require the Sri Lanka Tourist ETA. All foreign nationals, regardless of age, planning a short visit to Sri Lanka must apply for an ETA before arrival. This includes minors traveling with their parents or legal guardians. Remember, you can apply for your whole family at once with us.

Sri Lanka Tourist ETA validity: How long can I stay in Sri Lanka?

The ETA is valid for 30 days after arrival in Sri Lanka. You can travel to the country within 180 days from the date of issue.

This electronic travel authorization is a double-entry permit, not a multiple-entry one, and allows a maximum stay of 30 days in total. In other words, you can use it twice within 180 days and stay for a maximum of 1 month.

Can I extend my Sri Lanka Tourist ETA?

Yes, you can extend your Sri Lanka Tourist ETA. Initially, the ETA allows for a stay of up to 30 days from the date of arrival, but it can be extended for up to six months under certain conditions.

To apply for an extension, visit the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo, Sri Lanka before your current ETA expires. Find more information on the Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration website.
