The Suriname e-Visa Application | Citizens of Cambodia

Suriname's culture is one of the most metropolitan in the world, with an extremely varied socio-political population. The cities are small but lively, and street fairs and markets offer shopping, music and local foods. The creole music of the Maroons, or the clannish descendants of slavery who remain here, is a close cousin to Jamaican Reggae, and has a distinctive style, in which drums accompany intense dancing during competitions called "dance feasts." The drums of the Maroons are important in their culture and sometimes are even created and played as if they possess a particular gender. The cities also offer the mellow sounds of metallic music that is heard in the capital city, Paramaribo. This is the famous traditional Javanese "gamelan" music.
