Before you check the status of your passport renewal

When you use one of the two available methods, you have to make sure that you have at hand the necessary information. So, when you make your online inquiry or call, you will need the following:

  • Your last name – if your name includes suffixes, do not forget to add/mention them. For example, if your name is Jack the 2nd, it is essential that you add that. The same goes for hyphens.
  • Your date of birth – the used format is MM/DD/YYYY.
  • The last four digits of your social security number.
  • Once you have all of the above, you can proceed to check the status of your passport renewal process.

Passport renewal status check – online

If you decide that you want to check the status of your passport renewal, there are 4 steps you have to go through. They are as follows:

1.You must access the Online Passport Status System on the US Department of State website. To find it easier, you can just use your browser to search for it.

2.You must read the Department of State’s Privacy and Computer Fraud and Abuse Acts Notices and Disclaimers. It will show up in a new window.

3.After you read the Notices and Disclaimers, you have to click on the box that says, ‘I have read the Privacy and Computer Fraud and Abuse Acts Notices and Disclaimers.’ Then, you must click on the submit button.

4.Insert your last name, DOB, and the last four digits of your social security numbers.

Once you have done all of that, your pending application will be found, and you will be given the information you need.

Another thing worth mentioning here is that you can get automatic updates if you want. Once you locate your pending application, you can provide your email address. When the status of your passport renewal changes, you will be notified about it via email. Simple as that.
