After being suspended for two years due to the pandemic, the Vietnam e-visa was reinstated on March 15, 2022. Here is everything you need to know about the application process as a Romanian citizen.

Dying to see the wonders of Ho Chi Minh City, interacting with the friendly locals of Hanoi, or basking in the stunning views of Halong Bay but worried about the visa application process to get there? Please keep reading to learn more about what travel documents you need to visit Vietnam and how to go about obtaining them.

We've compiled a complete guide to visa fees, the online application process for a Vietnam tourist visa, and any Vietnam government rules to be aware of before your trip.

Do Romanians require a visa to enter Vietnam?

Romanian citizens, like most citizens from European countries, require a visa to enter Vietnam. This includes minors aged 14 and under.

If they are included on their parent's passport, they must be included in their parent's application for a single-entry visa to visit Vietnam. Visas are required for all travelers, regardless of age.

Types of Vietnam visas for Romanian citizens

There are two options available to you depending on the purpose of your trip: a tourist visa or a business visa.

You can apply for a tourist visa on arrival; the type will depend on the purpose and length of your stay. However, the only option we offer on our site is the standard Multiple Entry e-visa valid for a 1-month visit.

You will need to contact your local embassy or use the Vietnam government website to apply for any of these options:

  • Single entry visa valid for a 3-month stay.
  • Multiple entry visa valid for a 1-month stay.
  • Multiple entry visa valid for a 3-month stay.

We highly recommend Romanian citizens apply for the single entry one-month e-visa option as it tends to be the most popular due to how convenient, simple, and cost-effective the application process is.

What is a Vietnam eVisa?

Confused about what the Vietnam e-visa is? Let us explain. The Vietnam visa on arrival is an electronic visa introduced by the Vietnam immigration department in 2017. It enables travelers who need visas to complete their applications online.

This means they no longer need to visit the Vietnam embassy. People from over 80 nationalities, including Romania, need a Vietnam visa to enter the country for tourism or business. Thus, the e-visa is a brilliant opportunity to avoid long queues at the embassy or consulate.

Requirements to qualify for a Vietnam eVisa

To qualify to apply for a Vietnam eVisa as a Romanian citizen, your passport must meet the following requirements:

  • valid for at least six months from your date of arrival in Vietnam.
  • contain at least two blank pages to fit the visa sticker and immigration stamp.

This is because, with the e-visa, visitors apply online and obtain a visa approval letter, which validates them to receive official stamps upon arrival at any Vietnam International Airport. Please note that the Vietnam visa on arrival may NOT be used to enter Vietnam by sea and land borders.

Applying for the Vietnam visa on arrival/ eVisa

When applying for a Vietnam visa on arrival online, we recommend applying at least a few weeks before you plan to travel to the country. However, if you're in a rush, do not fear; we can help.

Application process for a Vietnam e-visa

We know how daunting and tiresome applications can be. As always, we've managed to simplify the process to save you time. iVisa's application process comprises 3 steps:

  • 1. Fill out the application form and verify your details are all correct.
  • 2. Choose your preferred processing time and pay the iVisa processing fee (see below for the breakdown of the visa fees).
  • 3. Upload any supporting documents (see below) and submit your application.

Once you have successfully submitted your application, our team will take it from there. When it is complete, we will email you a receipt and your visa approval letter.

We advise saving a copy of both in a safe place on your electronic device and printing the Vietnam e-visa confirmation letter as you may be asked to present it on arrival by the Vietnam immigration department.

Pricing & processing times for the Vietnam visa

Applying through iVisa lets you choose how quickly you want your visa to be processed. However, different processing times are charged differently. Your options are:

  • Standard processing takes 10 days and costs USD $97.99.
  • Rush processing takes 8 days and costs USD $158.99.
  • Super Rush processing takes 6 days and costs USD $232.99.

Note that the above prices include the USD $25.00 government fee for visa applications as well as the iVisa processing fee.

Vietnam visa requirements for Romanian passport holders

Supporting documents and other requirements you will need to apply for your Vietnam visa successfully include:

  • Passport that meets all the requirements stated above.
  • Recent passport photo, which you can get using the iVisa passport photo service.
  • Evidence of health insurance or travel insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment in Vietnam, with a minimum cover threshold of USD 10,000.
  • Proof of vaccinations for hepatitis, yellow fever, malaria, etc. Check the requirements for travel and speak to your general practitioner (GP) or doctor.
  • Credit or debit card to pay for the application fee.
  • Valid email address to obtain your e-visa receipt and confirmation.

Other ways to apply for a Vietnam visa

As stated earlier, if you need a different Vietnam visa for your trip to Vietnam, Romanian passport holders can apply through the Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam in Bucharest, Romania, or another country.

If you would like to apply for a Vietnam visa this way, please remember that the costs, process, and paperwork may differ. You will need to contact the embassy for more information.

COVID-19 regulations for tourists to Vietnam

Now that you've sorted out your Vietnam visa, let's dive into COVID-19 regulations to keep in mind, so you're fully prepared for your trip. Although Vietnam fully reopened for international tourism and dropped all COVID-19 restrictions, there are some critical points to remember since the recent decision may change at any moment.

Screening centers and health hotlines

Though you no longer need to test on arrival in Vietnam, if you have symptoms of COVID-19, are concerned about your health, or suspect you were exposed, local health authorities recommend calling Vietnam's health hotline on 1900 3228 immediately.

Health requirements

Authorities advise all incoming travelers to self-monitor for the first 10 days after they enter the country and immediately seek medical attention if they have symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
