The Green Card Lottery gives people from countries with low U.S. immigration a chance to win permanent residency, letting them live, work, and study in the United States.
You can enter the lottery every year from early October through early November. Winners are randomly selected, and they and their immediate families will be eligible to apply for a Green Card.
Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States, which means it follows the same visa and entry policies as the U.S. mainland. There are no separate Puerto Rican visas or entry procedures; travelers must meet U.S. entry requirements to visit the island.
Citizens of countries in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Australia, can travel to Puerto Rico for up to 90 days without a visa, but must first apply online for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization).
Nationals from other countries must apply for a U.S. non-immigrant visa for short stays, such as the B1/B2 visa for tourism, business meetings, or medical visits. These visas are typically valid for multiple entries and may be issued for periods ranging from several months to several years, depending on the applicant’s nationality.
The United States also offers various long-term visa types that apply equally to Puerto Rico, including work visas such as the H-1B, intra-company transfer visas like the L-1, and student visas like the F-1. Immigrant visas — such as those obtained through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (Green Card Lottery) – also permit residence in the United States, including Puerto Rico.
Since the U.S. entirely governs Puerto Rico’s entry policies, travelers should check with the U.S. Department of State or U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the most up-to-date visa information and requirements before traveling.
Applying for a visa on your own can be confusing and time-consuming. iVisa simplifies the process, reduces errors, and gives you peace of mind
