Non-EU travelers can now complete the entry questionnaire up to 72 hours before arriving at Portuguese borders
![Portugal launches EES app]()
Portugal has become the second country to launch the Travel to Europe app, following Sweden. The mobile app allows non-EU travelers to complete part of the Entry/Exit System (EES) process before reaching the border. According to the EU's Travel to Europe website, the app is now available in Portugal, where it supports the entry conditions questionnaire.
The launch aims to reduce long queues at Portuguese borders, particularly at Lisbon airport, where the EES has caused some delays since becoming operational in October 2025.
How the app works in Portugal
Non-EU travelers can use the app to complete the entry questionnaire up to 72 hours before arrival. This allows part of the border check process to be completed in advance, reducing time spent at in-person checks.
The app is designed for non-EU nationals subject to EES registration who hold a biometric passport. Using it is optional, but it can help speed up the border crossing process.
The app does not replace border checks, and travelers must still go through passport control upon arrival.
Different features by country
Portugal currently supports only the entry questionnaire through the app. In Sweden, the app offers additional features, including passport data and facial image pre-registration.
Other European countries using the EES may add support for the app later, with specific functionalities varying by country.
EES implementation timeline
The Entry/Exit System became operational on October 12, 2025, with European countries introducing the system gradually at their external borders. Full implementation across all border crossing points is expected by April 10, 2026.
