Indonesian visa policy for American citizens

US citizens need an entry visa to visit Indonesia, and the most common option is the Indonesia Visa on Arrival (VOA) or the electronic Visa on Arrival (eVOA) for tourism, visiting family or friends, business meetings, transit, or attending events. The eVOA is applied for online before departure and helps travelers save time at the airport compared to applying on arrival.

iVisa offers one entry document for US travelers:

  • Indonesian eVOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival): A mandatory online entry visa that allows US citizens to enter Indonesia for short stays such as tourism or business visits. It is issued electronically before departure and permits a stay of up to 30 days (extendable once).

General Indonesia visa requirements for US travelers are:

  • A United States passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay
  • Confirmed onward or return travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation and travel itinerary

FAQs

Yes. US citizens need a visa for an eVOA to visit Indonesia for short stays, depending on the purpose and duration of the trip.

An Indonesian eVOA is usually processed within minutes to 24–72 hours after payment, though it can take up to 5 working days. With iVisa, US citizens can obtain their Indonesian eVOA in as fast as 1 day.

With an approved VOA of eVOA, US citizens can stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days per entry.

Yes. US passport holders entering Indonesia with an eVOA are granted an initial stay of 30 days, which can be extended once for an additional 30 days, allowing a total stay of up to 60 days. The extension must be requested before expiry through Indonesia’s official immigration system.

US citizens are eligible for both the online eVOA and the VOA on arrival. Applying for the eVOA before departure is recommended because immigration processing is faster on arrival and the extension process is easier to manage online.

Yes. Travelers arriving directly in Bali must pay the mandatory Bali entry levy of IDR 150,000 (around USD 10). This levy is separate from visa fees and applies regardless of nationality. Travelers entering Indonesia through other airports (such as Jakarta) are not required to pay it.

United States passport (6+ months validity), approved Indonesian eVOA or VOA, onward/return ticket, accommodation details, and proof of sufficient funds if requested by immigration.
