France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs says French nationals staying under 30 days can get a visa on arrival instead of applying beforehand. The visa on arrival allows up to 30 days and can be extended once, to a maximum stay of 60 days. Your passport must be valid more than 6 months on entry, have blank pages and be in very good condition. The ministry also says Indonesian authorities require a return ticket or other proof that you will leave. Since 1 October 2025, every traveler must also file the All Indonesia arrival card, in the 3 days before arrival.

Do French citizens need a visa for Indonesia?

Yes, with the visa on arrival. France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs says the French emergency passport is recognized and eligible for a visa on arrival. The Indonesian Embassy in Paris does not accept emergency passports for the visas it issues itself.
Do French interns or journalists need a visa before going to Indonesia?
Yes. France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs says the visa on arrival does not apply to an internship (stage), which needs a specific visa. Journalists must apply for a visa at an Indonesian embassy or consulate before they travel. The ministry points visa applicants to the Indonesian Embassy in France.
