Indonesia Visa (eVOA) requirements

Most foreign nationals, including citizens from the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and EU countries, require a visa for Indonesia. The Indonesia eVOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival) is a digital travel authorization for eligible foreign citizens entering Indonesia for tourism, business meetings, or transit.

While travelers can still queue for a physical sticker visa at some airports, the eVOA allows you to apply in advance to skip the lines at major airports like Jakarta (CGK) and Bali (DPS).

Requirements verified against official government sources

  • A valid passport (minimum validity: 6 months from arrival date)
  • A recent passport-style photograph

Who it's for
Eligible foreign citizens traveling to Indonesia for tourism, business meetings, or transit, including travelers from the UK, the United States, Australia, Canada, and EU countries. You can still queue for a sticker visa at some airports, but applying ahead lets you skip that line at gateways like Jakarta and Bali.
Permitted activities
Tourism, government visits, business meetings, purchasing goods, and transit. Paid work is not allowed, and this is not the right document for journalism, research, or a long-term stay.
How you travel
You can use it at air, sea, and land checkpoints across Indonesia. It admits you once, so a side trip out of the country mid-stay means arranging another document before you return.
Delivery format
A PDF you download from your account and present with your passport at the border. There is no sticker to collect in advance.
Good to know
Every traveler needs their own authorization, infants and children included, since there is no family or group version. Airside transit does not need one, but clearing immigration or customs does. An in-country extension is possible at an immigration office, and while the request can now start online, an office visit is still part of it.
Validity
Valid for 90 days
Entry
Single entry
Length of stay
Stay up to 30 days per entry

  • Fairly easy to use. We struggle a bit with Technology so attaching the photo took awhile. We paid the tourist entry fee too but not sure what happens to this.

Indonesia visa FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about the Indonesia Visa (eVOA).

Still have questions?

Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.

Do I need a visa to travel to Indonesia?

Most foreign nationals, including citizens from the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and EU countries, require a visa for Indonesia. A 30-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) or an eVisa (eVOA) is available for tourism/business for over 90 nationalities.

How will I receive the Indonesia eVOA?

Your e-VOA will be sent to your email address as a PDF. You should download it to your mobile device and keep a printed copy to show upon arrival. The visa is also digitally linked to your passport, allowing you to use the Autogates at Bali and Jakarta airports to speed up the arrival process. If you applied through iVisa, you can also find your PDF document in your dashboard.

How long can I stay in Indonesia with the eVOA?

The eVOA is for short stays of up to 30 (extendable to 60) days for tourism or business. If you plan to stay in Indonesia for longer (up to 180 days) or for remote work, you should apply for the 211A Visit Visa instead.

How long does the Indonesia eVOA processing take?

The eVOA is usually processed quickly. With iVisa, you choose your processing speed at checkout, and the option you pick is shown with its delivery time before you pay. We recommend applying at least 48 hours before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delays.

Do children/minors need an Indonesian eVOA?

Yes, every traveler, including infants and children, must have their own visa for Indonesia. iVisa makes it easy to apply for the whole family in one go by using the "Add another person" feature during the application.

Do I need the Indonesia eVOA to transit in the country?

If you are transiting through Indonesia and staying within the international transit hall (not passing through immigration), you do not need an eVOA. However, if you need to clear customs to collect luggage or change terminals, you must have a valid eVOA, if your nationality is eligible.

What happens if my Indonesia eVOA application is denied?

Denials are rare but usually happen due to passport validity issues or poor photo quality. iVisa offers denial protection. If your application is rejected, our experts will review the reason and help you re-apply correctly.

Can I extend my Indonesia eVOA?

Yes. The eVOA allows for a one-time extension of an additional 30 days, giving you a total of 60 days in the country. Apply online at least 14 days before your current 30-day permit expires to avoid a 1 million IDR/day fine. The process requires uploading passport details and paying a fee. If you've applied through iVisa, we can also help you extend your eVOA, no government account required!

What is the Bali Tourist Levy and how do I pay this?

In addition to your visa, all foreign tourists entering Bali must pay the Bali Tourist Levy (IDR 150,000). This is separate from the visa fee and should be paid online before arrival through the "Love Bali" portal. If you are already in Bali and you forgot to pay the levy before arrival, you can pay at a booth in the airport arrivals area or simply pay online immediately through a smart device to ensure you have the QR code or voucher.
