India’s visa policy includes several options depending on the traveler’s nationality and purpose of visit. Citizens of Nepal and Bhutan can enter India without a visa or passport and may live and work in the country without time restrictions.
Nationals from many countries are eligible for an electronic visa (e-Visa) for tourism, business, medical, or conference purposes, which typically allows stays of up to 60 days and permits double or triple entry through designated ports. India also offers a Visa on Arrival to select nationalities, such as Japan and South Korea. This visa is valid for up to 60 days and is limited to specific airports.
Travelers needing longer stays or with purposes not covered by the e-Visa must apply for a regular sticker visa through an Indian consulate. Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) can live and work in India without a visa, though this does not apply to citizens of Bangladesh and Pakistan.
