Indian visa policy for Australian citizens

Australian citizens need a visa to visit India. Australian passport holders are eligible to apply for Indian eVisas for short-term travel such as tourism, business, or medical treatment. In addition, they must complete the e-Arrival Card, a digital immigration and customs form.

iVisa offers four entry documents for Australian travelers:

  • India Tourist eVisa: A mandatory electronic visa for Australian citizens traveling to India for tourism. Options include a 30-day double-entry visa or longer-term multiple-entry visas (1-year or 5-year), with stays typically limited to 180 days per visit.

  • India Business eVisa: an electronic visa for Australian travelers visiting India for business activities such as meetings, conferences, or trade purposes.

  • India Medical eVisa: an electronic visa for Australian citizens traveling to India for medical treatment at recognized healthcare facilities.

  • India e-Arrival Card: A mandatory digital form that must be completed online within 72 hours before arrival. After submission, travelers receive a QR code for inspection at immigration.

General India visa requirements for Australian travelers are:

  • an Australian passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay
  • Passport-style photo (if required)
  • Confirmed onward or return travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation and travel itinerary
  • Supporting documents depending on visa type (business invitation letter of hospital letter, if applicable)
