Who it's for: Every foreign passport holder needs one when entering India, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders. Indian passport holders are the only exemption. Nepalese and Bhutanese nationals can enter without a visa, but they still need to file this card.
What it is: A digital arrival declaration that replaces the old paper disembarkation form. It is not a visa and does not replace one. You still need a valid eVisa, paper visa, or OCI card to enter the country, plus submit the Air Suvidha Self-Declaration (SDF) health form — which is included if you apply for your India visa or arrival card through iVisa.
Permitted purposes: You'll choose your reason for travel from a fixed list on the government form: tourism, business, medical treatment, ayush, conferences, research, study, or employment. It doesn't cover relocating to India; that needs a different type of visa or permit.
Delivery format: A PDF with a QR-code is issued once the form is submitted. Carry it with you, printed or on your phone, to show at the airline boarding gate and to immigration officers when you arrive.
Good to know: Every arrival needs its own card — even with a multiple-entry visa, you'll fill it out again each time you enter the country. I had tried for weeks on the Indian government website for me and my 5 family members. It was so tedious and fraught with so many glitches, I gave up as I had to start over so many times. I-VISA is expensive but the data entry and user friendly nature made it so much easier. Only the made this 4-stars vs 5-stars. Expect to pay about $90/visa more than what the Indian government charges. It's worth the time if you have the money.

After multiple attempts to to complete the official India e-portal visa application, I was well beyond frustrated. No matter how I resized and reshot the required photos, I could not get the Indian site to accept them. I thought I might have to cancel my trip to India for want of a visa. Worse still the site will not tell you the photo is unacceptable until after you have paid the visa fee. The I-Visa site was literally a trip-saver in this regard. It was simple to complete their forms and not particularly time-consuming. And while the site quoted a 4 day turn-around time for my visa, I actually got it in 2 days. True the fee is not cheap. But after you have wasted money and energy on the official India visa site, you will find that the cost is actually a bargain. After all, would you rather be planning your vacation/trip or wrangling the a recalcitrant website?

Is the India e-Arrival Card a replacement for the Indian Visa?

No. The India e-Arrival Card is a mandatory digital declaration that replaces the old paper disembarkation form. It does not replace your visa. All travelers must still hold a valid eVisa, regular paper visa, or OCI card in addition to the e-Arrival Card to enter the country. Separately, air travelers must submit the Air Suvidha Self-Declaration Form (SDF), a mandatory health form, within 72 hours before arrival. When applying through iVisa, every application for an eVisa or arrival card will include the health form in one application.

Who is required to fill out the India e-Arrival Card?

Every foreign passport holder arriving by air, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders, must complete the card. Indian passport holders are currently exempt.

When is the deadline to submit the India e-Arrival Card?

The form can be submitted within the 72 hours before you arrive in India. With iVisa, you can apply even earlier. We'll submit your information to the government on your behalf, as soon as the window opens.

Can I submit one India e-Arrival Card application form for my entire family?

Since April 2026, the e-Arrival Card requirement covers every official immigration checkpoint, not just airports. That includes seaports and land crossings such as Raxaul.

Do children/minors need their own India e-Arrival Card?

Yes. There are no age exemptions for this requirement; every foreign traveler, including infants and children traveling on a parent's passport, must have their own individual declaration, parents or legal guardians can fill it out on their child's behalf. OCI cardholders, including minors, are also required to complete the card before arrival.

How will I receive the India e-Arrival Card?

Once your India e-Arrival Card application is approved, you’ll receive an email with a PDF and QR-code. We recommend printing a physical copy to present to your airline before boarding and to immigration officers at the Indian border. You should also keep a digital backup on your phone.
