Pakistan visa requirements

Most foreign nationals, including US citizens, must obtain a visa before traveling to Pakistan for tourism, business, study, work, or other purposes.

Following the suspension of the Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA) program, travelers must apply and pay for a standard eVisa.

Additionally, Pakistan now mandates an electronic travel declaration, requiring all incoming foreign nationals to submit a Digital Disembarkation Card before their journey.

General Pakistan visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry and with at least one or two blank pages
  • Recent passport-size photo
  • Travel details (such as flight itinerary and accommodation information)
  • Additional supporting documents depending on visa type

Pakistan visa FAQs

What travelers commonly ask about Pakistan visas.

Most travelers need an eVisa to enter Pakistan, allowing eligible travelers to apply online without visiting an embassy, depending on their nationality and purpose of travel.

The Visa on Arrival has been suspended as of January 2026.

You can check your eVisa eligibility and apply through the iVisa website or app.

es. If you hold a valid National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) or an advanced Smart NICOP issued by NADRA, you are legally granted permanent visa-free entry rights. At the border checkpoint, you must present your physical biometric NICOP card alongside your valid foreign passport to bypass standard visa requirements.

Yes. Following recent policy tightening, tourist visa applications are intensely scrutinized. You must upload either a confirmed, prepaid hotel booking covering your entire duration of stay or a formal Letter of Invitation (LOI) issued by a registered Pakistani tour operating agency or a verified host resident (accompanied by their local CNIC card copy).

No. Tourist and business visas do not permit employment in Pakistan.

If you plan to work in Pakistan, you must apply for a Work Visa, usually sponsored by a company or organization in Pakistan, and meet the relevant requirements.

The Pakistan eVisa application typically takes around 10–15 minutes to complete online.

Processing times vary depending on the visa type and nationality, but most applications are processed within a few working days via iVisa.

In many cases, you can apply for a visa extension through the Pakistan Online Visa System.

Extensions are subject to approval and depend on your visa type and individual circumstances. It’s important to apply before your current visa expires.

If you are transiting through Pakistan and remain within the airport’s international transit area, you typically do not need a visa, as long as you have a confirmed onward ticket.

If you plan to leave the airport during your transit, you may need to apply for an eVisa depending on your nationality.

Once your eVisa is approved, you will receive a PDF confirmation with via email. You should print a copy or keep a digital version accessible on your device.

Upon arrival in Pakistan, present your passport and approved eVisa document (ETA) to immigration authorities.

You may also be asked to provide supporting documents, such as proof of sufficient funds and travel plans, before being granted entry.

Yes. There are no age exemptions for this visa; every traveler, including infants, must have their own separate visa application submitted on their individual passport. For minors under 18 years old, you must upload the child's birth certificate, copies of both parents' valid passports or identification cards, and a specialized No Objection Certificate (NOC) / parental consent form signed by both parents and properly notarized.

With iVisa, you can get your Pakistan eVisa in as little as 6 days (depending on your application and chosen delivery speed).

We recommend applying at least 2 weeks before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delay.

If denied, you will receive a notification via email. The most common reason for a Pakistani eVisa denial is failing to provide the correct documents. You can reapply by submitting a completely new application.

iVisa offers denial protection. Our experts manually review your application before submission to prevent issues.
