India Medical eVisa requirements
The India Medical eVisa (also called the e-Medical Visa) is a digital visa for most international travelers seeking short-term medical treatment in India. It's valid for three entries into India within one year, covering multiple treatments in the country.
All foreign nationals arriving by air entering India must also complete the mandatory India e-Arrival Card, which has officially replaced the old paper disembarkation forms. In addition, air travelers are required to submit the Air Suvidha Self-Declaration Form (SDF), which is included in all eVisa and arrival card applications through iVisa.

- Who it's for
- International travelers going to India specifically to receive medical treatment, including treatment under Indian systems of medicine. A minor can be the patient, and each approved patient may bring up to two relatives on separate Medical Attendant eVisas (not offered by iVisa).
- Permitted activities
- Entry solely to receive medical treatment. Work, study, employment, NGO activity, and journalism are not permitted, and this visa does not give entry to Protected, Restricted, or Cantonment Areas.
- How you travel
- You may use the visa to enter and exit through any of India's 88 designated eVisa gateways: 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land borders. Biometrics are captured at immigration on arrival.
- Delivery format
- An electronic authorization sent by email. Print it (mandatory) and present it at the border, where it is stamped into your passport. There is no visa label issued in advance. Have your medical documents and the hospital letter on hand upon arrival too.
- Good to know
- You need a letter from the hospital in India, on its letterhead, giving your date or tentative date of admission. The details on it have to match your passport exactly, since a mismatch is the most common reason an application fails. The visa cannot be extended or converted once you are in India.

FANTASTIC, We started doing the application on our own ran in to problems and in "2"!!!! days you had it cleared up!!!
Application was very easy to follow & visa was delivered very quickly, will definitely be using iVisa again.
I had tried for weeks on the Indian government website for me and my 5 family members. It was so tedious and fraught with so many glitches, I gave up as I had to start over so many times. I-VISA is expensive but the data entry and user friendly nature made it so much easier. Only the made this 4-stars vs 5-stars. Expect to pay about $90/visa more than what the Indian government charges. It's worth the time if you have the money.
I had my Indian friend help me with the visa, she said it was so much better than anything she had used before, and was going to tell all her friends to use it in future! My visa was ready the day after I submitted it! Amazing!
After multiple attempts to to complete the official India e-portal visa application, I was well beyond frustrated. No matter how I resized and reshot the required photos, I could not get the Indian site to accept them. I thought I might have to cancel my trip to India for want of a visa. Worse still the site will not tell you the photo is unacceptable until after you have paid the visa fee. The I-Visa site was literally a trip-saver in this regard. It was simple to complete their forms and not particularly time-consuming. And while the site quoted a 4 day turn-around time for my visa, I actually got it in 2 days. True the fee is not cheap. But after you have wasted money and energy on the official India visa site, you will find that the cost is actually a bargain. After all, would you rather be planning your vacation/trip or wrangling the a recalcitrant website?
relatively easy to apply and they kept me in touch with what was happening with the process
Would recommend ivisa as it is a better service than the Indian Embassy
Easy to fill up the form and some errors are corrected right away by your team.
It is a more expensive option but it is an uncomplicated and completely stress free process and for that reason I thoroughly recommend this service. Thank you.
This was super easy to use, and I received status updates every day.

Do I need an eVisa or paper visa for medical treatment in India?
Most travelers are eligible for the India Medical eVisa. If you hold a Pakistani passport, are of Pakistani origin, or have a parent or grandparent who was born in or permanently lived in Pakistan, or if you travel on a Diplomatic or Official passport you are not eligible for this visa. Instead, you need to apply for a regular paper visa through an Indian Embassy.
How long is the India Medical eVisa valid for?
The India Medical eVisa is valid for 60 days, counted from the date of your first arrival in India, not from the date it's issued. This is separate from how long you're allowed to stay, which is also up to 60 days within that validity window. This eVisa is different from India's regular paper Medical Visa, issued directly through an Indian Embassy or Consulate, which can run for up to 1 year or the length of treatment, whichever is shorter. iVisa processes the eVisa only; if your case requires the paper visa instead, you'll need to apply through an embassy.
How many times can I enter India with an e-Medical Visa?
The India Medical eVisa is a triple-entry visa, meaning you can enter the country up to three times within the validity period of the visa. Each stay can last up to 60 days.
How will I receive the India Medical eVisa?
Once approved, your eVisa will be sent to your email. While it is digitally linked to your passport, Indian law requires you to carry a physical printout for verification by immigration officers and hospitals. If you've applied through iVisa, you can find a copy of your visa confirmation, e-Arrival card QR code, and Air Suvidha Self-Declaration Form in your dashboard.
Can I bring an person or family member with me on a Medical eVisa?
Yes. Up to two family members or medical attendants can accompany the patient. However, they must apply for a separate Medical Attendant eVisa (not available through iVisa). The validity of the Attendant Visa will be the same as the Medical eVisa.
How long does India Medical eVisa processing take?
The India Medical eVisa is usually processed within a week. With iVisa, you choose your processing speed at checkout, and the option you pick is shown with its delivery time before you pay. We recommend applying at least two weeks before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delays.
What happens if my India Medical eVisa application is denied?
If your application is denied, you typically need to apply for a regular paper visa at an Indian Consulate. iVisa offers denial protection as an add-on to your application (optional).
What are the most common reasons for an India Medical eVisa application to be denied?
The most common reasons are typos in the passport details or the hospital letter not meeting the specific requirements (such as missing the hospital's letterhead or the patient's full name). iVisa's expert review catches any errors to avoid delays and meet all Indian government document requirements before submission.
Can I extend my India Medical eVisa?
In some cases, a Medical eVisa can be extended in India if the treatment requires a longer stay. You must apply for an extension through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in India before your initial 60-day stay expires.
Do I need an Arrival Card and Air Suvidha health form for India if I have an eVisa?
Yes, all travelers arriving by air must complete a mandatory digital e-Arrival Card and Air Suvidha Self-Declaration (SDF) before their trip. The old paper disembarkation forms have been phased out; the new digital version is a strict requirement for all foreign passport holders and OCI Card holders. You must fill these out in the 72 hours before your arrival in India. After submission, you will receive a QR code (arrival card) and PDF (health form) which you must present at the airline boarding gate and to immigration officers upon arrival. You can apply for both the eVisa and Arrival card at the same time through iVisa. We automatically submit the health declaration in all applications, for your convenience.
Can I enter the country at any border with the India Medical eVisa?
As of August 2026, the India eVisa is accepted at 88 designated gateways: 37 airports (including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru), 38 seaports, and 13 land borders. The official portal can take a few days to reflect the newest additions, so confirm your entry point there before you book.
