Indian visa policy for French citizens

French citizens need a visa to visit India. France passport holders are eligible to apply for Indian eVisas for short-term travel such as tourism, business, or medical treatment. In addition, they must complete the e-Arrival Card, a digital immigration and customs form.

iVisa offers four entry documents for French travelers:

  • India Tourist eVisa: A mandatory electronic visa for French citizens traveling to India for tourism. Options include a 30-day double-entry visa or longer-term multiple-entry visas (1-year or 5-year), with stays typically limited to 180 days per visit.

  • India Business eVisa: an electronic visa for French travelers visiting India for business activities such as meetings, conferences, or trade purposes.

  • India Medical eVisa: an electronic visa for French citizens traveling to India for medical treatment at recognized healthcare facilities.

  • India e-Arrival Card: A mandatory digital form that must be completed online within 72 hours before arrival. After submission, travelers receive a QR code for inspection at immigration.

General India visa requirements for French travelers are:

  • A France passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay
  • Passport-style photo
  • Confirmed onward or return travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation and travel itinerary
  • Supporting documents depending on visa type (business invitation letter of hospital letter, if applicable)

FAQs

Yes. French citizens need an Indian eVisa or a regular visa to enter India. In addition, they should complete the India e-Arrival Card before they go, which replaces the paper disembarkation form.

Government eVisa processing usually takes 3–5 working days for the eVisa. With iVisa, French citizens can get their Indian eVisa in as fast as 3 days. The e-Arrival Card is usually processed the same day.

With an Indian eVisa, the stay is typically up to 30 days (e‑Tourist visa, common option). However, the final permitted stay is determined by the conditions on your approval and by immigration officers on arrival.

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date in India.

This travel authorization is commonly issued as a multiple-entry authorization. If you exit India, you may need a new approval to re-enter, depending on your visa conditions.

You should have your passport, your approved Indian eVisa, and supporting documents like accommodation details and proof of onward travel. Airlines may verify these documents before boarding.
