French citizens don’t currently need a visa to visit Mauritius for short stays of up to 90 days for tourism or 60 days for business. French travelers need one Mauritius entry document: Mauritius Travel Declaration Form: Officially referred to as the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form, this is a mandatory online document that must be completed prior to arrival. It generates a QR code that must be presented to health and immigration officials. This form integrates the international embarkation/disembarkation card and health declarations into a single digital process. General Mauritius entry requirements for French travelers are: French passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date; Confirmed return or onward flight ticket; Evidence of sufficient financial funds for the duration of the stay; Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or host address); Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation

Is there a long-term visa for French digital nomads or retirees?

Yes. You can apply for the Mauritius Premium Visa, which allows you to live in Mauritius for up to one year (renewable). It's free of charge and designed for those working remotely for employers outside Mauritius or for retirees. You must apply online at least 15 days before travel and prove a monthly income of at least US$1,500.

Do French citizens need to apply for a business visa before a short professional trip?

No. French citizens are granted a visa-exempt business entry automatically upon arrival. While the tourism allowance is 90 days, the business allowance is typically limited to 60 days per visit. This permit covers activities like attending conferences, seminars, or business meetings; it does not permit local employment.

Can I convert a tourist entry stamp into a Work or Occupation Permit while in the country?

No. You cannot change your status from a visitor to a worker while remaining in Mauritius. If you're offered a local job, you must apply for an Occupation Permit (a combined work and residence permit). While the application is processed online, you may be required to exit and re-enter under the correct visa category once approval-in-principle is granted.

Is a visa required if I'm only transiting through Mauritius?

No. French citizens don't need a transit visa for layovers of less than 24 hours, provided they have a confirmed onward ticket. If you intend to leave the airport during your transit, you'll be processed under the standard 90-day visa-exempt rules. You must still complete the Travel Declaration Form before you arrive.
