Mauritian visa policy for Swiss citizens

Swiss citizens don’t currently need a visa to visit Mauritius for short stays of up to 90 days for tourism or 60 days for business.

Swiss travelers need one Mauritius entry document:

Mauritius Travel Declaration Form: Officially referred to as the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form, this is a mandatory online document that must be completed prior to arrival. It generates a QR code that must be presented to health and immigration officials. This form integrates the international embarkation/disembarkation card and health declarations into a single digital process.

General Mauritius entry requirements for Swiss travelers are:

  • Swiss passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Evidence of sufficient financial funds for the duration of the stay
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or host address)
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation

Frequently asked questions about getting the Mauritius visa with a Switzerland passport

If you wish to stay beyond the initial 90 days, you must apply for an extension of stay at the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) in Port Louis. Swiss citizens can typically extend their stay for up to a total of six months in a calendar year for tourism, provided they continue to meet financial and accommodation requirements.

Yes. Swiss citizens can apply for the Mauritius Premium Visa, which allows for a stay of up to one year (renewable). This visa is designed for remote workers or retirees who don't intend to enter the local Mauritian labor market. It's free of charge, and the application is submitted online before you travel.

No. You don't need a formal visa for business, but the entry allowance is different. While tourism allows for 90 days, business entry is generally capped at 60 days per visit. This covers activities like attending seminars, conferences, or business meetings. You cannot engage in local employment under this entry stamp.

No. You cannot convert your visitor entry into a Work or Occupation Permit while remaining in the country. If you're offered a local job, you must apply for an Occupation Permit (a combined work and residence permit) through the Economic Development Board. You'll likely be required to exit and re-enter once the permit is approved-in-principle.

No. Swiss citizens don't need a transit visa if their layover is less than 24 hours, provided they have a confirmed onward ticket. If you intend to leave the airport during your transit, you'll be processed under the standard visa-exempt rules and must still complete the Travel Declaration Form.
