Indonesia Visa (eVOA) requirements

Most foreign nationals, including citizens from the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and EU countries, require a visa for Indonesia. The Indonesia eVOA (Electronic Visa on Arrival) is a digital travel authorization for eligible foreign citizens entering Indonesia for tourism, business meetings, or transit.

While travelers can still queue for a physical sticker visa at some airports, the eVOA allows you to apply in advance to skip the lines at major airports like Jakarta (CGK) and Bali (DPS).

Required documents for the Indonesia eVOA

To apply for an Indonesia eVOA, you typically need the following documents and/or information:

  • A valid passport (minimum validity: 6 months from arrival date)

  • A recent passport-style photograph

Frequently asked questions about the Indonesia Visa (eVOA)

Most foreign nationals, including citizens from the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and EU countries, require a visa for Indonesia. A 30-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) or an eVisa (eVOA) is available for tourism/business for over 90 nationalities.

Your e-VOA will be sent to your email address as a PDF. You should download it to your mobile device and keep a printed copy to show upon arrival. The visa is also digitally linked to your passport, allowing you to use the Autogates at Bali and Jakarta airports to speed up the arrival process. If you applied through iVisa, you can also find your PDF document in your dashboard.

The eVOA is for short stays of up to 30 (extendable to 60) days for tourism or business. If you plan to stay in Indonesia for longer (up to 180 days) or for remote work, you should apply for the 211A Visit Visa instead.

The eVOA is usually processed quickly. With iVisa, you can get your eVOA in as little as a few hours (depending on your application and chosen delivery speed). We recommend applying at least 48 hours before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delays.

Yes, every traveler, including infants and children, must have their own visa for Indonesia. iVisa makes it easy to apply for the whole family in one go by using the "Add another person" feature during the application.

If you are transiting through Indonesia and staying within the international transit hall (not passing through immigration), you do not need an eVOA. However, if you need to clear customs to collect luggage or change terminals, you must have a valid eVOA, if your nationality is eligible.

Denials are rare but usually happen due to passport validity issues or poor photo quality.

iVisa offers denial protection. If your application is rejected, our experts will review the reason and help you re-apply correctly.

Yes. The eVOA allows for a one-time extension of an additional 30 days, giving you a total of 60 days in the country. Apply online at least 14 days before your current 30-day permit expires to avoid a 1 million IDR/day fine. The process requires uploading passport details and paying a fee.

If you’ve applied through iVisa, we can also help you extend your eVOA, no government account required!

In addition to your visa, all foreign tourists entering Bali must pay the Bali Tourist Levy (IDR 150,000 - at the time of writing). This is separate from the visa fee and should be paid online before arrival through the "Love Bali" portal.

If you are already in Bali and you forgot to pay the levy before arrival, you can pay at a booth in the airport arrivals area or simply pay online immediately through a smart device to ensure you have the QR code or voucher.
