Taiwan renews visa-free entry for Thai, Bruneian, and Filipino travelers through July 2027

The annual renewal also keeps conditional visa access in place for India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos through December 2027

Nationals of Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines will keep their visa-free access to Taiwan for another 12 months, with the renewed arrangement running from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) confirmed the extension on July 17, 2026, following an inter-agency review of its New Southbound Policy (NSP) visa measures, according to Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Before this renewal, the existing arrangement was set to expire on July 31, 2026, which would have forced travelers from all three countries to go back to applying for visas through Taiwan's consular system. Now, they have another full year of frictionless access on the same terms that have applied throughout the program's history.

The visa-free program has been renewed annually since at least 2023, with each extension covering a fresh 12-month window. It remains a trial arrangement rather than a permanent statutory exemption, meaning MOFA reassesses it each year based on visitor numbers, the state of bilateral relations, and border security considerations.

How long can I stay in Taiwan under this program?

If you hold an ordinary passport from Thailand, Brunei, or the Philippines, you can enter Taiwan without a visa for up to 14 days per visit. The 14-day limit has remained consistent across every renewal cycle and cannot be extended once you are in the country. If you need more time in Taiwan, you would need to apply for a visa through the standard process before traveling.

Do travelers from India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos still get facilitated access?

If you hold a passport from any of these five countries, your access to two separate facilitation programs has also been renewed. The Project for Simplifying Visa Regulations for High-End Group Tourists from Southeast Asian Countries (known as the Guanhong Project), overseen by Taiwan's Tourism Administration under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, has been extended through December 31, 2027. The conditional visa-free entry through the Online Application for ROC (Taiwan) Travel Authorization Certificate (TAC), managed by the National Immigration Agency under the Ministry of the Interior, also remains in place through the same date.

These two programs offer a different tier of access than the full visa-free arrangement available to Thailand, Brunei, and the Philippines. Rather than walking straight through immigration, nationals of these five countries go through a conditional application process that is considerably lighter than the full visa route but still involves an online submission and approval step.

Is this a permanent arrangement?

If you are planning travel based on this program, keep in mind that it is not guaranteed beyond July 31, 2027. MOFA has renewed it every year so far, but each extension is a fresh policy decision. Travelers should monitor announcements from Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs in the months leading up to the expiry date to confirm whether a further renewal is coming.
