Egypt eVisa requirements

Eligible visitors to Egypt must obtain an Egypt eVisa in advance, unless they are citizens of one of the visa-exempt countries (such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE) or are eligible for a Visa on Arrival. The Egypt eVisa is designed for tourism purposes only.

Unlike the traditional process, the eVisa process is fully digital. There is no need to mail your passport or visit an Egyptian consulate or embassy.

Frequently asked questions about the Egypt eVisa

Most travelers require a visa for Egypt. While citizens of Gulf countries (like Saudi Arabia and the UAE) are visa-exempt, most Western travelers (USA, UK, EU, Canada) can choose between an eVisa or a Visa on Arrival. However, the eVisa is highly recommended to avoid long queues at the airport.

Travelers who are not visa-exempt and are ineligible for an eVisa or Visa on Arrival must apply at an embassy.

Once approved, the eVisa will be sent to you via email as a PDF. The Egyptian authorities require you to print the eVisa and carry it with your passport throughout your trip.

If you applied through iVisa, you can also find your eVisa document in your dashboard.

The Egypt eVisa allows for a maximum stay of 30 days. While the visa is valid for entry for 90 days (single-entry) or 180 days (multiple-entry) from the date it was issued, your actual time in the country cannot exceed 30 days per visit.

The official government processing time is usually around 7 days. However, delays are common during peak travel seasons. We recommend applying at least 10–14 days before your flight. With iVisa, we offer expedited options to get your approval in as little as 3 business days.

No, the Egypt eVisa is strictly for tourism. If you are traveling for business, work, or study, you must apply for a visa through the nearest Egyptian Embassy or Consulate.

Standard eVisas are generally not extendable online. If you wish to stay longer than 30 days, you would typically need to visit the Mugamma building in Cairo (Immigration Office) to request an extension, which can be a time-consuming process.

If you expect to return to Egypt soon for tourism, you can also apply for a multiple-entry visa, which allows multiple visits of up to 30 days each, within 180 days from the date of issuance.

Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, must have their own visa unless they are from a visa-exempt country. Parents can manage the application for their children through iVisa by using the "Add another person" option.

If your transit time is less than 6 hours, you must remain in the transit area. If it’s between 6 and 48 hours, you may be allowed to leave the airport provided you show a valid onward ticket and a transit visa - please check this with your airline.

However, if your transit is longer or you wish to stay in a hotel outside the airport, a visa is required.

As of 2024/2025, Egypt introduced a free 96-hour transit visa specifically for passengers flying with EgyptAir or Air Cairo, provided they apply through the airline.

Note: Some nationalities are restricted from leaving the airport during transit regardless of the duration.

If your Egypt eVisa is denied, you'll typically need to submit a new application. We also offer denial protection as an optional add-on to your application. In some cases, our experts can help you reapply.

The most common reason is a mismatch between the application data and the passport. Even a small typo in the passport number or a blurry scan of the bio-page can result in an immediate rejection.

With iVisa, your application will undergo expert review to make sure it meets all government requirements, avoid costly mistakes and rejection or delays.
