Holders of Isle of Man passports can now travel to China without a visa for up to 30 days, following confirmation from both the UK government and the Chinese Embassy.
According to a statement published by the Isle of Man Government, the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has confirmed that Crown Dependency variant passports are accepted under China's visa-free entry scheme, provided the holder's nationality status is listed as British citizen. The Chinese Embassy has also confirmed that border officials are aware of the update.
The clarification comes after the Isle of Man Government engaged with the FCDO following cases of people encountering problems when attempting to enter China.
Treasury Minister welcomes resolution
Treasury Minister Chris Thomas MHK welcomed the news:
"I am grateful to those who brought this issue to our attention and pleased that we were able to follow it up so promptly. We have worked closely with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, and I welcome the confirmation that holders of Isle of Man passports are eligible for visa‑free travel to China under the new scheme. I hope that this clarification will provide greater certainty for people travelling for business, family or leisure."
China's visa-free scheme for UK nationals
On 17 February 2026, China announced an extension of its 30-day visa-free entry policy for UK nationals, with the arrangement now valid until 31 December 2026.
What travelers need to know
The Isle of Man Government emphasized that it remains each traveler's responsibility to ensure they hold the correct documentation before departure. Travelers are strongly advised to check the latest FCDO travel advice for up-to-date entry requirements and to contact the Chinese Embassy in the UK directly to confirm immigration and customs rules.
The FCDO guidance notes: "The authorities in China set and enforce entry rules. If you're not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Chinese Embassy in the UK."
Travelers who arrive without a valid passport or the necessary entry documentation may be refused entry and required to arrange and fund their own return journey.
