China confirms visa-free entry for UK & Canada

China has confirmed it will grant visa-free entry to British and Canadian citizens starting February 17, 2026. The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced the policy on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

The move follows China's earlier commitment to offer visa-free access to UK nationals, announced during Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to Beijing in January 2026.

Under the policy, ordinary passport holders from both countries can enter China without a visa for up to 30 days for business, tourism, visiting family and friends, exchange programs, and transit. The visa exemption is effective until December 31, 2026.

UK and Canada join 50 other countries

With this announcement, the UK and Canada join more than 50 countries that already enjoy visa-free access to China, including France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Japan.

The policy covers both leisure and business travel, making it easier for tourists and professionals from both countries to visit China without the previous visa requirement.
