Papua New Guinea visa policy

For eligible travelers, a Visa on Arrival (VOA) is available at Jacksons International Airport for select nationalities, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, the UK, and certain Pacific island countries. A VOA allows a 30-day or 60-day single-entry stay, depending on nationality, and cannot be extended once inside Papua New Guinea.

For most other travelers, Papua New Guinea operates an online eVisa system through the Easy Visitor Permit (EVP), allowing travelers to apply in advance for a 30-day or 60-day single-entry stay for tourism, family visits, or short business activities.

For longer stays or specialized purposes, including work, study, volunteering, and official missions, Papua New Guinea requires visa categories that often need sponsorship or official invitations. These applications are typically lodged directly with the ICA or at Papua New Guinean diplomatic missions abroad.

All travelers must enter Papua New Guinea with a passport valid for at least six months beyond arrival, with at least one blank page for entry stamps. Travelers must also carry a return or onward ticket and may be asked for proof of sufficient funds for their stay.

Papua New Guinea enforces its visa conditions strictly. Overstaying a visa can result in daily fines, detention, deportation, and bans on re-entry. Travelers are strongly advised to monitor their authorized stay carefully and make extension arrangements in advance if eligible under their visa category.
