Singapore passport holders can currently visit Italy without a visa, but that is about to change slightly. From late 2026, you will need to apply for ETIAS online before you travel. It is a quick pre-clearance step, not a full visa, but skipping it means you won’t be allowed to board your flight.

Do Singaporeans need a visa to travel to Italy?
Italy currently allows Singaporeans to stay visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Once ETIAS launches in 2026, that visa-free access continues, but you will first need pre-approval through the online system. Without an approved authorization, airlines won’t let you board.
As Rachel from Singapore put it, ETIAS is “basically the same thing” as the U.S. ESTA travelers already know.
What is ETIAS, and how does it work?
ETIAS is an EU security screening system for visa-exempt travelers. Once you’re approved, the authorization is linked digitally to your passport and lets you travel across all 30 European countries.
It covers short stays for:
- Tourism
- Business
- Medical treatment
- Transit
It does not cover work or study.
What Singaporeans need to apply for ETIAS
To apply, have the following ready:
- A Singapore passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
- A working email address
- A credit or debit card for the fee (the government fee is around €7, and an iVisa service fee applies separately if you apply with us)
- Basic travel details, such as your destination and dates

Step-by-step: How to apply for ETIAS from Singapore
- Go to the official ETIAS portal, iVisa, or the mobile app.
- Fill in your personal information, passport details, and travel plans.
- Pay securely online by card or PayPal, and upload any required documents.
You’ll usually get confirmation by email within minutes, though it can take up to 72 hours. Once approved, the authorization links to your passport automatically, so there is nothing to print.

- You can enter Italy and other Schengen countries multiple times.
- Each stay is capped at 90 days within any 180-day period.
- The authorization stays valid for 3 years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
