Visa Policy for Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan visa policy explains the requirements and regulations that foreign nationals must meet when they wish to visit the country. Kazakhstan doesn't require a visa for about 60 nationalities, for stays of up to 90 days based on the nationality.

Nevertheless, passport holders from over 180 countries and territories are required to obtain a Kazakhstan visa before they can visit the country, either by applying at an embassy or applying online for the visa.

Fill me in

Kazakhstan visa policy currently permits travelers from more than 115 countries to apply for visas online (eVisa), which eliminates the need for embassy appointments weeks in advance, or for long immigration lines at the border for visas.

For applicants eligible for the Kazakhstan eVisa, a simple online form can be completed in a few minutes, which will result in an approved electronic visa being emailed to applicants. The eVisa for Kazakhstan is a single-entry electronic visa that is valid for business and tourism purposes, although certain nationalities can also apply for it for medical care. Holders are allowed to enter the country once for a short stay of up to 30 days. The visa requirement applies to citizens of 65 countries, regardless of the purpose or duration of a visit to Kazakhstan.

Citizens who are eligible to apply for an online visa should also apply for a visa from the Kazakhstan embassy if they intend to stay longer in the country.

Through the embassy of Kazakhstan, foreign citizens can apply for a wide range of visas, including work visas, student visas, business visas, religious visas, transit visas, and other visa types. Find further information about Kazakhstan visa policy and requirements below.

Tourist Visa Policy for Kazakhstan

Over 60 nationalities can enter Kazakhstan without the need for a visa for short-term tourism without a visa set by the Kazakhstan immigration department. The Republic of Kazakhstan does require a tourist visa for visitors from over 180 countries. These can be obtained either through embassy consular services or through electronic visas available online.

A Kazakh electronic tourist visa is now available to citizens of over 115 countries. This visa allows a 30-day single-entry stay in Kazakhstan. An approved eVisa can be used to enter the country for 90 days after it has been granted.

An eligible foreign citizen must have a passport valid for at least three months beyond the expiration date of the Kazakhstan eVisa, as well as an email address to which the approved online tourist visa will be sent. Those not eligible to apply for the Kazakh eVisa are required to obtain a tourist visa at an embassy or consulate. Find below further information about Kazakh visa requirements for your nationality.

Kazakhstan eVisa

The eVisa program for Kazakhstan, introduced in 2019, allows eligible citizens to request an electronic visa through an online application, eliminating the need to apply through a government office in person. There are currently more than 115 nationalities that can now submit a simple application online, to receive an approved eVisa sent by email, greatly expediting the process of applying for a visa for tourism or business. Some foreign citizens are also eligible to obtain an eVisa for medical treatment. Follow the Kazakhstan visa policy for more details.

A necessary requirement to apply for a Kazakh visa online is that the applicant must first obtain a letter of invitation from the Kazakhstan Migration Service. The invitation letter-number must then be provided when completing the eVisa application form. An approved eVisa permits a single entry to Kazakhstan for a stay of up to 30 days and may be used to enter the country at one of two designated points of entry, at either Almaty or Nursultan Nazarbayev airports.

In the event that an eVisa-eligible visitor wants to travel to the country for longer stays or another purpose of a visit than that permitted with the eVisa, they must apply for a visa from the nearest Kazakh embassy or consulate. Find below a complete list of all the countries for which an eVisa is needed to visit Kazakhstan.
