Madagascar eVisa

Purpose: The Madagascar eVisa is an electronic travel authorization that allows foreign nationals to enter Madagascar for tourism, family visits, and short-term business or conference events.

When to apply: It’s recommended to apply at least two weeks in advance.

Duration and extensions Depending on the type selected, the eVisa allows stays of 15, 30, and 60 days. The eVisa cannot be extended.

Entries: The visa is issued as a single-entry document.

Ports of entry: eVisa holders can enter Madagascar at designated international airports, including but not limited to: Antananarivo (TNR), Nosy Be (NOS), Antsiranana (DIE), Mahajanga (MJN), Sainte Marie (SMS), Toamasina (TMM), Toliara (TLE), and Taolagnaro (FTU).

Delivery format: After your eVisa application is approved, you receive an electronic travel authorization (ETA) via email. This document is typically a PDF that you must print out and carry with you, or keep on your mobile device to present to immigration officials upon arrival.

Madagascar Transit Visa*

If you're transiting through Madagascar and need to leave the airport, this visa allows a stay of up to 72 hours. It’s ideal for layovers or overnight connections. You must show a confirmed onward ticket and visa for your next destination (if applicable).

Madagascar Non-Immigrant Visas*

These include a range of short-term visas for conferences, missions, or media purposes. Applicants must apply at a Malagasy embassy and show an official invitation letter and proof of purpose.

Madagascar Cruise or Yachting Visa*

Crew members of cruise ships or yachts are eligible for this visa. It usually allows same-day or short stays (under 72 hours) and is coordinated by the cruise line or yacht crew in advance.

Madagascar Work or Long-Stay Visa*

If you intend to work, invest, or live in Madagascar long-term, you’ll need to apply for a long-stay visa, typically valid for 1–3 years. There are multiple categories depending on your status (employee, investor, religious worker, etc.).

These must be obtained at a Malagasy embassy before travel, followed by in-country registration.

Madagascar visa policy

Most travelers can enter Madagascar for up to 15 days without a formal visa, though you must pay a mandatory administration fee upon arrival at the airport.

For stays exceeding 15 days, you may obtain a 30-day, 60-day, or 90-day tourist visa either as an eVisa online or as a "Visa on Arrival" at the airport. Most travelers prefer to get an eVisa in advance to avoid queues at the airport.

While citizens of most nations are eligible for these options, Burundi nationals must still apply for a physical visa at an embassy or consulate in advance, and Palestinian nationals remain restricted from entering the country.

The eVisa (Landing Authorization) is currently accepted at major international airports, including Ivato (TNR) in Antananarivo and Fascene (NOS) in Nosy Be.

The eVisa is valid for 90 days from the date of issuance, but your stay duration depends on which option you select:
