The Madagascar visa system is known for being difficult to navigate – your photo must be the right size, and your passport scan must be clear.
Don’t worry – we review your whole application to catch anything that might cause delays. One of our experts checks everything for errors or missing information to make sure it’s ready to go. This review is quick but thorough.
We’re not the government, but we submit your application to them and are here for you along the way if there are any problems.
We’ll email your approved eVisa and let you know how to use it for your trip.
If you're transiting through Madagascar and need to leave the airport, this visa allows a stay of up to 72 hours. It’s ideal for layovers or overnight connections. You must show a confirmed onward ticket and visa for your next destination (if applicable).

These include a range of short-term visas for conferences, missions, or media purposes. Applicants must apply at a Malagasy embassy and show an official invitation letter and proof of purpose.

Crew members of cruise ships or yachts are eligible for this visa. It usually allows same-day or short stays (under 72 hours) and is coordinated by the cruise line or yacht crew in advance.

If you intend to work, invest, or live in Madagascar long-term, you’ll need to apply for a long-stay visa, typically valid for 1–3 years. There are multiple categories depending on your status (employee, investor, religious worker, etc.).
These must be obtained at a Malagasy embassy before travel, followed by in-country registration.

Madagascar requires visas for nearly all foreign nationals, except for a handful of countries like Mauritius and Seychelles. The most accessible option for short-term stays is the Madagascar eVisa, which is available online through the official government portal or via trusted platforms like iVisa.
You can choose from 15, 30, or 60-day single-entry visas. All must be used within 90 days of issuance. The eVisa is strictly for tourism, family visits, or attending short business meetings – you cannot work, volunteer, or study using this visa.
Visitors who prefer not to apply in advance may still get a visa on arrival at Ivato International Airport (Antananarivo) or other major entry points. However, travelers report long wait times, limited staff, and occasional payment issues. That’s why the eVisa is strongly recommended for a smoother arrival process.
If you plan to arrive as a crew member by cruise ship or private yacht, you must apply through a separate system involving the port authority and local immigration agents. These visas are not part of the eVisa scheme and must be handled locally.
For longer stays, work, or residency, you’ll need to secure a long-stay visa or “Transformable Visa” from a Malagasy embassy before you travel. After arrival, you must convert this into a residence permit with the Ministry of the Interior within 15 days.
Extensions for short-stay visas may be granted in Madagascar, but only once. Overstays incur daily fines (often between MGA 100,000–150,000) and may result in deportation or future bans.
Entry rules may also require a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if you're arriving from a risk country or transiting through one for more than 12 hours. Health checks and accommodation confirmation are also common at the airport.
Applying for a visa on your own can be confusing and time-consuming. iVisa simplifies the process, reduces errors, and gives you peace of mind
It’s a single-entry visa, so if you leave Madagascar and return, you’ll need a new visa. Once in the country, extensions are possible (only once) for the same period initially granted.
In the meantime, download the iVisa app, so you can access your travel documents while you're on the go.
