Morocco drop AEVM requirement for Malians

Malian nationals will no longer need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM) to enter Morocco, with the suspension taking effect on April 27, 2026.

According to a post shared on Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Facebook page, they received notification from Rabat on April 23, 2026. Morocco's embassy in Bamako issued a separate notice confirming the change.

The measure had been signaled earlier this month during talks in Bamako between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop.

Mali's Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision, describing it as a step toward stronger bilateral ties. Officials said the change should ease travel and support economic, commercial, and human exchanges between the two countries.

What this means for Malian travelers

The AEVM is an online travel authorization that must be obtained before departure. It is not a visa in the traditional sense. With the suspension, Malian travelers will no longer need to complete this step before traveling to Morocco. Standard entry requirements still apply, including valid travel documents and checks upon arrival.

AEVM list shrinks after Africa Cup of Nations

The AEVM system was temporarily expanded ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco hosted. Between September 25, 2025 and January 25, 2026, several countries that are normally visa-exempt were added to the authorization list, including Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gabon, Niger, Senegal, Togo, and Tunisia.

That period has now ended, and Morocco is reducing the number of nationalities subject to the requirement. After April 27, only citizens of the Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Ghana, and Guinea will still need to obtain an AEVM before traveling to Morocco.

E-Visa option for other nationalities

For travelers who require a visa, Morocco offers an e-Visa system. Applications are submitted online, with a maximum validity of 180 days for a single entry and a permitted stay of up to 30 days.
