Peru opens visa-free access for eligible Moroccan travelers
Moroccan nationals holding a valid Schengen or US visa can now visit Peru without obtaining a separate Peruvian tourist visa. The exemption stems from Supreme Decree No. 033-2026-RE, published in Peru’s official gazette on July 25, 2026, signed by President José María Balcázar Zelada and Foreign Minister Carlos José Pareja Ríos.
The exemption takes effect approximately September 23, 2026, 60 days after publication.
Who qualifies and for how long
Eligible travelers need:
- A valid Moroccan ordinary passport
- A valid Schengen or US visa
- Both documents valid for at least six months from the date of arrival
Those who qualify may remain in Peru for up to 183 days per year, either as a single extended trip or across multiple shorter visits. Before this change, Moroccan citizens needed a separate Peruvian tourist visa regardless of any other visa they held.
Why Peru made the change
Peru based the decision on reciprocity. Since 2017, Morocco has allowed Peruvian nationals with ordinary passports to enter visa-free. The decree aims to strengthen relations between the two countries, pointing to their comparable populations and economies and their existing cultural and social ties.
