Peru to exempt Moroccan Schengen and US visa holders from tourist visa

Moroccan nationals with a valid Schengen or US visa won’t need a tourist visa for Peru

Moroccan nationals with a valid Schengen or US visa can visit Peru as tourists without needing to get a separate Peruvian visa.

This exemption is based on Supreme Decree No. 033-2026-RE, which was published in Peru's official gazette, El Peruano, on July 25.

President José María Balcázar Zelada and Foreign Minister Carlos José Pareja Ríos signed the decree. It will take effect 60 days after it was published, so the change will start around September 23.

What changes for Moroccan travelers

Before this change, Moroccan nationals had to obtain a Peruvian tourist visa regardless of any other visas they held.

Now, Moroccan citizens with a valid ordinary passport and a valid Schengen or US visa do not need a separate Peruvian visa to visit as tourists.

The decree says that eligible travelers "are exempt from the visa requirement for entry into Peruvian territory as a tourist."

How long can Moroccan travelers stay in Peru?

Eligible travelers can stay in Peru for up to 183 days in a one-year period. This can be one long visit or several shorter trips.

Both the Moroccan passport and the Schengen or US visa presented at entry must be valid for at least six months from the arrival date.

Why is Peru granting this exemption?

Peru’s government explained that the decree is based on reciprocity, a principle it sees as a key principle of international law.

Since 2017, Morocco has allowed Peruvian nationals with ordinary passports to visit without a tourist visa.

Peru’s new rule offers the same for Moroccan travelers with a Schengen or US visa. The decree also aims to strengthen ties between the two countries, highlighting their similar population sizes, economies, and existing economic, cultural, and social connections.
