A visa deal that most travelers can’t use
A visa exemption agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Egypt is now in effect, but it applies exclusively to holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports — not ordinary tourists or business travelers.
For eligible passport holders, the exemption allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, and covers entry, exit, and transit.
How the agreement came about
The agreement was signed in Cairo in November 2025, during a visit to Egypt by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi described the meeting as “historic and a step toward opening new horizons for bilateral relations.”
Kyrgyzstan’s parliament ratified the exemption in March 2026, and President Japarov signed it into law in April 2026.
What it means for regular visitors
For most people, nothing changes. Standard passport holders traveling between the two countries must still obtain a visa through the usual channels — an e-visa, visa on arrival, or an embassy application, depending on the route.
The exemption benefits government officials and diplomats rather than recreational or commercial travelers. Anyone planning a trip should confirm the requirements for their passport before booking; you can review options on the Kyrgyzstan visa hub.
