Burkina Faso visa policy

Most foreign nationals must obtain a visa before traveling to Burkina Faso for tourism, business, study, work, or other purposes. Citizens of ECOWAS member states, such as Ghana and Nigeria, do not require a visa.

Travelers entering Burkina Faso by air must complete a visa application online and receive a pre-approval eVisa, which must be presented to immigration.

General Burkina Faso visa requirements are:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival with at least one blank page

  • Recent digital passport photo

  • Travel details (such as flight itinerary and a hotel reservation or letter of invitation)

  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory for all travelers for entry)

  • Additional supporting documents depending on visa type (e.g., employment contract for work visas or admission letter for student visas)

FAQs

It depends on the visa you choose. Single-entry eVisas are valid for 30 or 90 days. Multiple-entry visas offer more flexibility within their validity period.

Citizens of ECOWAS countries can visit for up to 90 days without a visa. Other nationalities, like Singapore and the UAE, also enjoy short-term visa-free access.

Most travelers don’t need a transit visa if they stay in the airport for less than 24 hours and have a confirmed onward ticket. Some nationalities, like South African passport holders, still require a visa even for transit.

You’ll need a passport valid for at least 6 months, a recent passport-style photo, travel details (like accommodation and return flights), and sometimes a yellow fever certificate.

The eVisa cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, apply for a long-stay visa or permit in advance.

Yes, all travelers, including minors, need their own visa. Parents or guardians can apply for children on the same application.

No, tourist or short-stay visas do not allow you to work. If you’re planning to take a job, you’ll need a proper work visa or long-stay visa.
