Who it's for
Travelers from eligible countries who do not have visa-free access to the European Union and want to visit Estonia for a short stay. There is no age exemption, so every child, including infants, needs their own application and their own visa.
Permitted activities
Tourism, business and transit. Working and living in the Schengen area are not permitted on this visa. Business files need an invitation from the host company, while a private visit needs a certificate from the host.
Where you apply
This is an embassy visa, so you apply at the consulate of the country you intend to visit. If you are visiting more than one country, apply at the consulate where you will spend the most time, or the country you enter first when the stays are equal.
Biometrics
Your fingerprints and photo are collected in person at the consulate, and the government fee is paid at that appointment. If you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa recently, they can be retrieved from the Visa Information System and you may not need a new appointment.
Delivery format
A sticker placed in your passport by the consulate, not a digital document. It is valid at all external borders of the Schengen area.
Validity
Valid for 90 days
Entry
Single entry
Length of stay
Stay up to 90 days per entry
Processing time
Get it in as fast as 45 days

  • I have filled out and copied so many forms for the multiple countries/airports I'm using for this trip. Your people were responsive and knowledgeable. Instructions were concise and pertinent. I still have more to do, but thank goodness I have enough time and don't feel an unrealistic time pressure. Thanks

Estonia visa FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about the Estonia Schengen Visa.

Still have questions?

Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.

Do I need an Estonia Schengen Visa?

If your nationality requires a visa to enter Estonia and is not on the visa-free list, you’ll need a Schengen Visa to enter Estonia and all other Schengen member states for tourism or business.

Can I apply for an Estonia Schengen Visa online?

While you can start the process and fill out the application form online through iVisa, the Schengen rules require you to attend an in-person appointment for biometric collection (fingerprints and photo) and to submit your physical documents at a consulate or visa center.

How will I receive the Estonia Schengen Visa?

After the authorities in Estonia process your application, you will receive your passport back with the visa sticker attached, ready for your trip. You can also find a copy of your Schengen Visa confirmation in your iVisa dashboard if applied through us.

How long can I stay in Estonia?

The standard short-stay visa (Type C) allows you to stay for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area. This applies to the entire Schengen Zone, not just Estonia. If you have a multiple-entry visa, you must still adhere to the 90/180-day rule.

Can I extend my stay in Estonia?

Schengen Visa extensions are rarely granted. You can generally only extend your visa in cases of force majeure (e.g., natural disasters or flight cancellations), humanitarian reasons, or serious personal reasons that prevent you from leaving. You must apply at the local Foreigners' Authority before your visa expires.

What is the processing time of an Estonia Schengen Visa?

The standard processing time is 15 calendar days from the moment your application reaches the Estonia Consulate. However, it can take up to 45 days during peak seasons or if additional document verification is required. We recommend applying at least 2 months before your trip.

Do children/minors need an Estonia Schengen Visa?

Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, requires their own visa. For minors, the application must be signed by both parents/legal guardians, and a birth certificate must be provided along with a notarized travel consent form if the child is traveling alone or with only one parent. You can use iVisa’s "Add another person" feature to easily manage applications for the whole family in one session, saving time and effort.

What is the difference between a Schengen Visa and ETIAS?

The Schengen Visa is for travelers who are not visa-exempt. The ETIAS (launching late 2026) is a digital travel authorization for citizens of visa-exempt countries (like the US, UK, and Canada). If you currently need a visa to enter Estonia, you will continue to need a Schengen Visa.
