Netherlands Schengen Visa

The Netherlands Schengen Visa is a short-stay visa that allows eligible non-EU nationals to travel to the Netherlands and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for purposes such as tourism, business, visiting family, or transit.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

🛂 Passport: Issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 3 months after the planned exit from the Schengen Area, and with at least 2 blank pages

📸 Photos: Recent biometric passport photos

🗺️ Travel itinerary: Planned dates of travel and purpose of visit (tourism, business, visiting family, transit)

✈️ Proof of onward/return travel: Confirmed or reserved return flight ticket

🏨 Proof of accommodation: Reservation or invitation letter with address

💰 Proof of sufficient financial means: Recent bank statements, payslips, or sponsorship letter

🏠 Proof of ties to country of residence: Employment letter, student enrollment, business registration, or proof of residence

🩺 Travel medical insurance: Minimum coverage of €30,000 in all Schengen countries

ETIAS for the Netherlands (coming soon)*

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is not a visa. It is a pre-travel authorization that will be required for visa-exempt travelers entering the Netherlands and the Schengen Area.
  • Who needs it: Travelers from visa-free countries (e.g. US, UK, Canada, Australia)
  • Purpose: Tourism, business, transit, or short stays
  • Stay limit: 90 days within a 180-day period *ETIAS is not yet in force. Once implemented, it will be mandatory for visa-exempt travelers to have an ETIAS to enter the Netherlands.

ETIAS is an upcoming electronic travel authorization that will be required for travelers from visa-free countries entering the Netherlands and the Schengen Area. It is not a visa and will allow short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period once implemented.
Working in the Netherlands generally requires a residence permit or long-stay visa approved before arrival. A Schengen Visa does not allow employment.
Yes. A valid Schengen Visa issued by the Netherlands allows travel to all Schengen countries, as long as the stay does not exceed the 90/180-day limit.

The 90/180-rule means you can stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days total within any rolling 180-day period. The 180-day window is always counted backward from each day you are in the Schengen Area. Example:

  • You enter the Schengen Area on January 1
  • You stay for 30 days and leave on January 30
  • In the previous 180 days, you’ve used 30 days
  • You still have 60 days available

If you return later:

  • You stay another 40 days
  • You’ve now used 70 days in the last 180 days
  • You have 20 days remaining until earlier days drop out of the 180-day window
  • Leaving the Schengen Area does not reset the clock. Only time does
A Netherlands Schengen Visa (Type C) is a visa required for travelers from visa-required countries and must be obtained before travel through official channels. ETIAS is not a visa but an online travel authorization for travelers from visa-exempt countries. Once implemented, it will be applied for online before departure and will allow short stays in the Netherlands and the Schengen Area. ETIAS is faster to obtain but does not permit long-term stays or employment and does not replace a Schengen Visa for travelers who need one.
