Malaysian visa policy for Indonesian citizens

Indonesian citizens don’t currently need a visa to visit Malaysia for short stays of up to 30 days for tourism or business.

Indonesian travelers need one Malaysia entry document:

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC): A mandatory Malaysia Digital Arrival Card that must be submitted within three days before arrival. This digital declaration is required for all entries by air, land, or sea. Once submitted, you'll receive a PDF confirmation to present at immigration.

General Malaysia entry requirements for Indonesian travelers are:

  • Indonesian passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Evidence of sufficient financial funds for the duration of the stay
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel reservation or host address)
  • Other supporting documents, depending on purpose/situation

Frequently asked questions about getting the Malaysia visa with a Indonesia passport

Yes. Indonesian citizens earning at least US$24,000 annually can apply for the DE Rantau Nomad Pass. This is a Professional Visit Pass that allows you to live and work remotely in Malaysia for 3 to 12 months, with the option to renew for another year. It also permits you to bring your spouse and children as dependents.

No. The 30-day Social Visit Pass granted upon entry is non-extendable for tourism. If you need to stay longer for special circumstances (like medical emergencies), you must apply for a special pass at an immigration office. For planned stays longer than 30 days, you must apply for a Social Visit Visa at a Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia before you travel.

Not for standard tourism or business meetings lasting less than 30 days. However, if you're entering for employment, study, or a stay exceeding the 30-day limit, you must apply for an eVisa or a Visa With Reference (VDR) before your arrival.

If you're transiting through KLIA1 or KLIA2 and staying within the transit area for less than 24 hours, you don't need a visa. However, if you must clear immigration to collect baggage, change terminals on separate tickets, or stay in a hotel outside the airport, you'll be granted a 30-day visa-exempt entry, provided you meet all entry requirements (including a valid MDAC).

No. You cannot convert a 30-day visa-exempt entry into an Employment Pass or any other work-related permit while you're in the country. You must leave Malaysia, and your employer must apply for a Visa With Reference (VDR) on your behalf. You can only re-enter and receive your work permit once that specific visa is approved.
