- Who it's for
- Nationals of the countries Malaysia requires to hold a Visa Without Reference for a social visit. Israeli and North Korean passport holders cannot apply under any circumstance, and Afghan passport holders must obtain Visa With Reference approval before they can apply for this one.
- Permitted activities
- Social-visit purposes only, which covers tourism, visiting family and friends, and short business trips. Employment and study are not permitted and need a Visa With Reference instead, applied for through a Malaysian mission.
- Entry points
- Any gazetted Malaysian air, sea or land entry point. Applicants from sixteen African nationalities are restricted to air entry points only, even with a valid eVISA, so a land or sea crossing is not an option for them.
- Delivery format
- You receive a digital eVISA Note as a PDF. It prints on A4 in color or black and white, and the digital copy on a phone or laptop is accepted at entry, so a printout is not mandatory.
- Good to know
- Each traveler needs their own application and their own supporting documents, and a minor applicant must include a birth certificate. One account is capped at a small number of applications. Transiting travelers who leave the airport list the airport as their Malaysian address and add a cover letter explaining the layover.
- Validity
- Valid for 90 days
- Entry
- Single entry
- Length of stay
- Stay up to 30 days per entry
- Processing time
- Get it in as fast as 2 days

Malaysia visa FAQs
Quick answers to the most common questions about the Malaysia Tourist eVisa.
Still have questions?
Our visa experts are available 24/7 on chat, email, and WhatsApp.
Do I need to fill out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) if I have a Malaysia Tourist eVisa?
Yes. Holding an eVisa doesn't exempt you from the arrival card. All foreign nationals are required to register and submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within 3 days prior to their arrival in Malaysia.
Can I apply for a Malaysia Tourist eVisa while already inside the country?
No. Individual applicants aren't allowed to apply for a Tourist eVisa from within Malaysia. You must obtain your approved visa before traveling and have it ready before you arrive at a Malaysian checkpoint.
How long can I stay in Malaysia on a Tourist eVisa?
While a standard Tourist eVisa (Visa Without Reference) is valid for entry for up to 6 months from its issuance date, the maximum duration of stay permitted for each entry is 30 days.
Do I have to print my approved Malaysia eVisa, or can I show it on my phone?
You must print a physical copy. Immigration officials at entry checkpoints require a physical printout of your eVISA Note on an A4 sheet (in either color or black and white) to stamp alongside your passport.
Are there border entry restrictions when traveling on a Malaysia Tourist eVisa?
Most nationalities can enter through any gazetted air, land, or sea checkpoint. However, citizens from specific nations (including Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Nigeria) are strictly required to enter via air entry points only.
Are Indian citizens exempt from the Malaysia visa requirement in 2026?
Yes. Indian nationals are exempt from the visa requirement for tourist and social visits up to 30 days until December 31, 2026. They must still complete the mandatory Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arrival.
Do children/minors need their own Malaysia Tourist eVisa?
Yes. There aren't any age exemptions for this visa; every traveler, including infants, must have their own individual visa. For minors, you must upload their birth certificate along with their passport biodata page during the application process.
Do I need a visa to transit in Malaysia?
If you're remaining within the international airport transit area at KLIA for less than 24 hours without clearing immigration, you don't need a visa. However, if you plan to leave the transit zone, clear immigration to switch non-connected terminals, or stay longer, you must obtain a Tourist eVisa or check eligibility for a free 120-hour Transit Pass.
How will I receive the Malaysia Tourist eVisa?
Once your Malaysia Tourist eVisa application is approved, you'll receive an email. You must print a physical copy on an A4 sheet to present alongside your passport to immigration officials at the border checkpoint.
How long does the Malaysia Tourist eVisa processing take?
The Malaysia Tourist eVisa is usually processed quickly. With iVisa, you choose your processing speed at checkout, and the option you pick is shown with its delivery time before you pay. We recommend applying at least 6 days before your departure date to account for any unexpected government delays.
What happens if my Malaysia Tourist eVisa application is denied?
If denied, you will receive a notification via email. The most common reason for denial is mismatched flight details. You can usually re-apply by submitting a completely new application with corrected information. iVisa offers denial protection. Our experts manually review your application before submission to prevent issues.
