Costa Rica is one of those countries with landscapes that fill you with wonder. The rainforest and cloud forests, as well as its waterfalls and volcanos, call to every adventurous soul. While the wildlife takes your breath away, the beaches that you can find between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean are the cherry on the top of the incredible experience that awaits you in this beautiful tropical country. There’s so much to do in Costa Rica that you can have an itinerary of days full of different activities that are focused on culture, nature, adventure, or relaxation. Since we’ve talked about the experiences in four different categories, why don’t we continue with this dynamic and show you what you can do around Costa Rica? Cultural: Here you can start by exploring the capital, San José, where you can go to the Catedral Metropolitana, try traditional food in the Central Market, have a picnic in Sabana Metropolitan Park, or go to the National Theater. Another place to visit is the Santa Rosa National Park and then, the city of Limón, where you can taste local Afro-Caribbean delicious dishes. Located in Talamanca Canton, Puerto Viejo is a city you have to check out. Puerto Viejo has a lot of hotels and restaurants, plus it’s one of the best spots for surfers. Other cultural places to visit are the Finca 6 sphere in Palmar Sur, the Bóruc indigenous reserve, a coffee plantation in San Marcos de Tarrazú, the Guayabo National Monument, the Bribri indigenous reserve, and Nicoya, to name a few. Nature: In Tortuguero National Park and its canals you can see incredible biodiversity, with the opportunity to admire the green sea turtle, the black river turtle, the green macaw, and caimans. La Selva Biological Reserve, in the district of Sarapiquí, and the Monteverde Cloud Forest, between Alajuela and Puntarenas, are two places you cannot miss! Adventure: For some water fun such as surfing, snorkeling, tubing, kayaking, canyoning, whitewater rafting, hot springs, waterfalls, and mud baths you have to go to Drake Bay, Turrialba and Pacuare River, Tortuguero, Arenal, Rincón de la Vieja National Park, and Papagayo Gulf. Nauyaka and San Gerardo de Dota offer bird watching, canopy tours, hiking, horseback riding, and waterfalls, while in Irazu Volcano National Park you can explore and enjoy nature at its best. Relaxing: If you like yoga and spas then Nosara is the place for you, although it is also a great destination for surfing, and close to the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge, where the world’s second-largest sea turtle nesting happens between September and October. La Fortuna Waterfall and Arenal Volcano offer spas where you’ll be pampered and can relax, and hot springs make an already peaceful day perfect. We’re going to focus on the Costa Rica Health Pass right now. First, this is not a visa, so if you are a citizen from a country that requires a visa to enter Costa Rica, then you must still apply for a visa. The Costa Rica Health Pass is required for all travelers who wish to visit the country. This form was designed to monitor international arrivals and to minimize the risks surrounding travel during the coronavirus pandemic. To apply for this travel document you’ll be asked to provide information about your health status and intentions to stay in Costa Rica. Traveler’s medical insurance will be needed as well. Regarding the traveler’s medical Insurance, this can be either international or purchased in Costa Rica. If you want to purchase it in Costa Rica, you can do it through the National Insurance Institute (INS - Instituto Nacional de Seguros) or Sagicor. But if you have international insurance, there are certain policies you must follow, as tourists will have to request a certificate from their insurance company, issued in English or Spanish, that verifies at least the next three conditions. (This certificate needs to be uploaded when you’re in the process of filling out the Health Pass). Effectiveness of the policy during the visit to Costa Rica must provide guaranteed coverage of medical expenses in case you get sick with COVID-19 while in Costa Rica, for at least USD $50,000. It must include minimum coverage of USD $2,000 for accommodation expenses as a result of Coronavirus. Those who don’t comply with the requirements, won’t be permitted to enter the country. Print your Costa Rica Health Pass and carry it with you since you will be required to show it at the point of entry. Another requirement for passengers visiting the country is that they will have to comply with Costa Rica’s safety protocols, that means that travelers must wear face protection and satisfy the strict protocols of the air terminal regarding physical distancing, disinfection of hands and carpets, as well as taking temperature readings, plus any other sanitary instructions required for your safety and others.
