Summary
  • From late 2026, Panamanian citizens must apply for ETIAS before visiting Liechtenstein.

  • ETIAS is a quick online pre-screening, valid for 3 years and linked to your passport.

  • ETIAS allows multiple short trips of up to 90 days across all Schengen countries, including Liechtenstein.

Starting in late 2026, travelers from Panama will need to apply for a new travel authorisation called ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) before entering Liechtenstein or any other Schengen country.

While Panamanian citizens currently enjoy visa-free access to the Schengen Area, ETIAS will soon become a mandatory digital requirement for entry, even for short visits.

Do Panamanians need a visa for Liechtenstein?

No, Panamanians can still enjoy visa-free entry for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

However, starting in mid- to late 2026, you’ll need ETIAS approval before departure.

What is ETIAS and how does it work?

ETIAS is a digital travel authorisation system that screens visa-exempt travelers before they arrive in Europe. It’s designed to make travel safer and more efficient without reintroducing full visas.

Once approved, ETIAS is linked to your passport electronically and allows you to enter Liechtenstein and 29 other countries in the Schengen Area.

What Panama citizens need to apply for ETIAS

  • A Panamanian biometric passport (valid for at least 3 months beyond your stay)
  • A credit or debit card to pay the fees
  • A working email address
  • Details about your first point of entry and travel plans

💡 Tip from iVisa’s travel expert, Femke Strietman:

“Don’t wait until the last minute. apply at least a week before you travel in case the new system has teething issues.”

Step-by-step: How to apply for ETIAS to visit Liechtenstein

1️⃣ Visit the official ETIAS portal or apply with iVisa for easier guidance (download the mobile app for an even faster service)

2️⃣ Fill out your personal, passport, and travel info

3️⃣ Pay the fee and wait for the approval email – most are processed in minutes to 72 hours

📌 You don’t need to print anything – ETIAS is digitally linked to your passport.

How long is ETIAS valid?

Your ETIAS authorisation gives you:

  • 3 years of validity (or until your passport expires)
  • Multiple short stays — up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Access to 30 Schengen countries, including Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and France

FAQs for Panamanian travelers

Do I need ETIAS for every trip?

No. Your ETIAS is valid for multiple entries over a 3-year period.

What if I get a new passport?

You must reapply for ETIAS with your new passport.

What if I want to stay longer?

To stay more than 90 days in Liechtenstein or another Schengen country, you’ll need to apply for:

  • A student visa
  • A work visa
  • A residence permit for family reunification or other long-term stays
