Mexico Tourist Card

Also known as the Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM), the Mexico Tourist Card is a mandatory entry form for all foreign tourists entering Mexico by land, air, or sea. This applies even if you're visa-exempt.

It can be used only once and lets you stay up to 180 days.

To apply for the Mexico Tourist Card (Land), you’ll need:

🛂 Passport: It must be valid for at least 6 months before your intended departure date from Mexico.
🗺️ Travel itinerary: You'll need to provide your chosen entry point into Mexico, the purpose of your visit, and your planned duration of stay.
🏨 Proof of accommodation: You may be asked to provide details of where you plan to stay in Mexico, like a hotel reservation and its physical address.
✉️ Invitation letter: You may need to provide a letter from the Mexican organization inviting you to a business-related activity or a letter of acceptance from an educational institution to study for a maximum period of 6 months.

Mexico Electronic Authorization

The Mexico Electronic Authorization (the Sistema de Autorización Electrónica or ETA) is for travelers from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey (red passport holders only), and certain Peruvian transit passengers.

It can only be used once within 30 days of approval and allows a stay of up to 180 days.

To apply for the Mexico ETA, you’ll need:

🛂 Your passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months after your trip ends.
🗺️ Travel itinerary: Please provide your planned travel date and duration of stay in Mexico.

Mexico Tourist Visa*

The Mexico Tourist Visa, also called a Visitor Visa, is for non-visa-exempt travelers from over 170 countries. It is used for tourism, temporary volunteer work, or short business trips.

This multiple-entry visa is valid for 6 months and allows stays of up to 180 days.

Mexico Electronic Pre-Registration*

This pre-registration form is required for all Colombian travelers flying to Mexico. It allows travelers to share trip details and receive pre-approval from immigration before boarding.

Once approved, you’ll get a QR code and a Tourist Card, valid for up to 180 days.

Mexico visa policy

Mexico’s visa policy depends on your nationality, reason for travel, and the documents you already hold. Citizens from countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, and most EU member states can visit Mexico for up to 180 days without a visa, as long as they are there for tourism, business, or short cultural or volunteer activities. These travelers must still complete the Mexico Tourist Card (FMM) before or after arrival.

Travelers who hold valid U.S., Canadian, UK, Schengen, or Japanese visas, or who have permanent residency in those countries, may also be exempt from needing a Mexican visa, even if their nationality would otherwise require one.

Visitors from over 170 nationalities must apply for a Mexico Tourist Visa if they are not visa-exempt. This visa allows stays of up to 180 days and is typically used for tourism, business meetings, or family visits.

Mexico also issues a range of long-term visas for those who want to work, study, retire, or reunite with family members.

What’s the difference between the Mexico Tourist Visa and the Tourist Card?
